please help: calendar and contacts acting weird
 

My dad has been given an Omnia with the stock Verizon ROM. I set it up for him with some software and everything was working great. He then went to a Verizon store to have it activated, and when he brought it back, it had two weird issues:

1) If you activate Contacts, it's empty - it shows nothing whatsoever. But if you choose to display contacts from the phone, you can see all the ones he synchronized from his laptop! Oddly, one of the softbuttons, which I mapped to Contacts, now no longer launches Contacts at all.

2) the Monthly view of the Calendar shows 6 weeks, not 4 (it shows the previous week and the one after whatever month is being looked at). The squares corresponding to each day are thus very small, and don't show anything - even though the calendar does have tons of stuff in it (visible by viewing as individual days), it looks blank from the Month view. My WM phone shows little "corners" in days where something is scheduled. I think his should also, but I can't figure out how to make it display it that way.

I have no idea what they did at the store or if it's a coincidence. How do I get Contacts to work again, and Calendar to show the days that have something in them?
