Omnia II newbie...

Newbie here.... I just got an Omnia II SCHi920/Verizon about 2 weeks ago and recently discovered this forum. I'm moving from a BB Storm. Overall I like the phone. It's much better multimedia oriented than the Storm. I just haven't fell in love yet.

There are a few things that are really starting to irk me. The first one is scrolling, especially in contacts and things like that. I don't know if I'm not using the right part of the screen, but it seems like either there is waaay much much scrolling (can't control up/down) and whenever I let off of the screen it calls whatever contact my finger was on. Also in the browsers, I can use the stylus to scroll and randomly it will jump back to the top of the page/article. That is getting annoying too.

I've tried to download a few programs/tweak and I can't seem to get them to work right, or at all. QMenu. I have to manually start it everytime, I cannot get it to start/replace my start menu.

Any readings or specific search phrases I would greatly appreciate. I really want to love this phone, but right now it's like a girl with beauty and no brains.... http://www.modaco.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Many thanks!!

Welcome to the forum. You'll get used to the scrolling after a while. Remember this is a resistive screen rather than capacitive as on the storm, so the feel is totally different.

On the browser, go to Opera mini. It is like 10 times faster and much more usable.

Go here http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/versions/ and choose international download.

There are a ton of apps out there, but it's hit and miss. You just have to try them to see if they'll work. There are a whole bunch of O2 furums, and some of them have a bunch of tested compatable CAB files that will greatly increase the usability of the phone. Windows is a lot different than Blackberry, but if you're not the kind of person that wants to experiment, then it's probably not for you.

Best of Luck

Not sure about your contacts issue. johncal's post is definitely relevant about the screen sensitivity. For what it's worth, try recalibrating the screen...Settings | Display and Light tab | Align Screen.

The browser "jumping" issue is a pain. It seems to be because the page is not completely loaded at the time you start to move around. Strange but true! I either let the page completely load or I stop it from downloading anything more and start to move around the page after that.

Can't help you with QMenu sorry. All I can say is I did not like the stock Omnia Touch Wiz and today screen (and memory issues!!!). I flashed to a custom ROM soon after getting the device. I use SPB MobileShell and Naong's MobileSense add-ons for it. I love this device now. It'll last me until WP7 catches on -lack of apps :( -or I perform the ultimate sin and jump ship.

I echo Johncal & Covkid. This is actually a good phone. Even better if you flash the Rom and use SPB Mobile Shell. Flashing the Rom is easy. A lot of custom roms and support at Modaco also. Verizon Samsung SCH-i920 Omnia II CDMA ROM Discussion - Windows Phone @ MoDaCo. Even if you don't flash yet. Disable the Touchwiz and try the trial version of SPB Mobile Shell. You will notice a huge difference.
