New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
I can't post the link here, but there's a thread at modaco's O2 forum, with links. No one knows for sure yet if it contains the CSC and PDA files, as it's just an exe file, but it's hope anyway.

Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
It doesn't update the PDA or CSC, just the phone.
|
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
It may not update them, but if it contains them, and just rewrites the originals, it could be used for custom ROMs.

Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
This is really great news, as I was not expecting an update for this phone any time soon. I am a little surprised that there hasn't been much response to this announcement. Too soon? Maybe the cooks havn't read about it yet, or they are just busy already trying to create tools from the update file (hoping)? I also hope they are not all using other phones! This forum seems a bit on the less popular side.

Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
I am hopeful, because it seems like a pretty big file (410 MB)to be merely a phone patch.
Edit: The 410 MB file was pulled and replaced with a 420 MB file. The download dialog box still says 410 MB, but the file downloaded is 420. Does anyone know if any high level developers are looking into this for possible ROM development ? |
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
From: http://www.samsung.com/us/i920/update/
"Maintenance Release 1 (CK24) containing Qualcomm 1x/EVDO Call Drop Patch" "Samsung has released a software upgrade for the SCH-i920, which is recommended to be installed. This upgrade includes numerous software additions/enhancements/corrections. The update may take up to 10 minutes to complete if the system is already set up." |

Nope, I've got the original from before it was pulled, the second from the 7th when it was put up again, and just to be sure I re-downloaded it right now. Using JV16 powertools duplicate file tool, set to only report 100% matches, all 3 I've downloaded are exactly identical, and all 3 are 410.6mb. (All three are the XP version - I've read there's a vista version. Maybe that's 420mb) But, the actual ROM hasn't changed. They simply pulled it for whatever reason, then put it back up two days later. |
What is updated with this ROM, anyone find a list?
Anyone know where the list the details of the changes? I haven't had call drop problems, and don't want to flash my phone until somebody comes up with a Kitchen for it...
Thanks, The Captain P.S. If you use customer ROMs, send the guys working on them just a couple of bucks... really, 2-5 bucks is one heck of a deal for what we get! Otherwise they burn-out, and we all lose... oh where or where has Wazzer gone? |

I called up samsung and asked them about it saying I wanted to make sure that what was in it was worth it. They told me it is only the drop-call evdo patch. So if you don't have those problems, don't upgrade yet...wait on the custom ROMS people are working on them over at Modaco. |
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
trying to flash it now, hung at 31% for 20min, rebooted phone, restarted flash, hung at 31% and sitting there...

We're just talking conversion semantics here. 1024kb = 1MB. 420,411kb = 410.55MB. |
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
Thanks for the reminder. I should know that.

Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
need help with installing the update!! When I run ht e installation tools a window pops up saying Windows mobile media center not instlled. It is installed! I had the same problem with o1 and I got it to work by going to wmdc setting and selecting or deselecting an option but I forgo which one?
Im running vista home premium |
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
are you running windows 7? if so make sure you go to properties, compatibility mode, run as...either windows xp or vista sp3.
if your already running vista, open mobile device center, connection settings, and uncheck the first and last options i believe |
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
Does installing the patch do a hard reset and delete everything or does it just update the radio?
|
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
it does a hard reset...back up before doing it.
|
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
I've seen bad things happen when a backup from previous rev is restored over an update. Things break. Not sure I want to reinstall everything.
|
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
well when you do a back up instead of doing a complete restore, just do a custom restore and only restore the files you want. That's what I do
|
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
All right! Wozzer is working on loader/kitchen for Omnia 2 and is making some progress. Over at Modaco http://www.modaco.com/content-page/2...pdate/page/20/
|
Re: New O2 upgrade! Possible custom ROMS
Can't upgrade!! upgrade tool does not find windows mobile device center(wmdc), therefore, it does not do anything else but it pops up a windows saying wdc not found and to install it when it is!!
