Yes, this is the recommended method to update with the joey and speedrabbit kernels. Just follow the tut using the speedrabbit tar file instead of the zefie file and it will work. I'm currently using speedrabbit's 1.6 kernel and didn't even know 1.7 was out, so i'll be flashing using this method today as well. As far as moving the original sprint file from the binary folder, most say it is better to remove the file from the folder completely(doesn't matter if you rename the file or not if you do), but I've flashed my phone twice leaving the file in the folder and just renaming it. No problems both times. So it is really up to you. Both ways will work just fine.

. Thanks skyj635 speedrabbits looks realy good so I will be rooting my phone with that one

Not because I am lazy about using Google to find them, but where are you folks finding all these kernels?

And once you find a kernel you prefer do you remove the already installed kernel first, or does this process just overwrite/replace? I am assuming at this point the kernel is like a desktop computer BIOS.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on CL14 Out-The-Box and Backup/Restore Customization

Dumb question here, I am trying to root my wife's Moment but I am wondering about the file size of the kernel I downloaded. I went with SPH-M900_ZE14.3_KERN_SPR.tar.7z and I noticed the original file in C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary is like 142,146 KB that I renamed and the file for the 14.3 is like 10,001 KB. Am I ok to proceed with this?

Thanks in advance. I am learning this the best I can.I would rather not end up with a brick on a Sunday filled with NCAA basketball.

That should be the correct file size. I too was skeptical but it worked out right. I imagine the difference has to do with extra programs included in the Samsung/Sprint version. Some suggest removing the default file from that directory instead of just renaming it.

And from what I read it is pretty difficult to brick this phone.

I haven't rooted my phone yet but speedrabbit's 1.7 looks like a good one http://www.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=938.0
