Garmin Mobile XT

Is anyone using the Garmin Mobile XT software software on the Intrepid? I was able to load it but I am having problems getting it connected to the gps. Does anyone know what port the garmin software needs to use to acquire a signal?

On most windows mobile devices I think it is com 4 but if Garmin isn't finding it on its own then I would recommend getting another gps program to test it or prime it. Chartcross gps is easy to find and i think i remember one named gps viewer a while back. Those programs can help finding the GPS then either leave it open for Garmin or you can just use the info from them.

What would chartcross do, do I use this for garmin or do I used chartcross instead?

I have Garmin running on my intrepid, it found the GPS no problem, just wondering, if you go to Settings>System>Externsl GPS, the third tab says "Access", make sure "Manage GPS automatically" is checked!
Infact the only GPS program that I have installed on my Intrepid that has not been able to find the GPS is Destinator, to bad, that looked like it would have been a decent GPS program, I have been looking around for a new program since Garmin has decided to NOT support WM any longer, I have emailed them twice trying to get them to atleast sell the updated maps to those who would like to have them, since they came out with their own phone they have abandoned us, tobad, from what I have read their phone is clunky, and they have it on, in my opinion, the worst carrier in the industry!
Anyway I hope this helps.

I did check my setting, that was already checked off, when I launch garmin, it goes through the "scanning attached" for some reason its not finding the gps.

Chartcross or holux gps viewier is a small program only used to open the gps port and gain some info from it like maybe speed, or number of connected satellites. One trick other people do for other nav software (not garmin) is to run a small light program like that to get the gps going then run the larger navigation program and the nav program will get a gps lock eaiser. Garmin does not need this but since you are having problems it is just an option. The holux gps viewer has a button built in where it will scan all your ports and tell you which one to use for gps. I am feeling extra generous today so ill even attach it.

in that zip is an .exe that is to be run on your phone.

It should not, I have Bing, Google Maps, ZorroGPS, and Garmin, all found the GPS no problem I can't believe you are having this kind of trouble with Garmin.

I just scans the blue tooth and eventually doesn't pick up a gps. I followed the direction as mentioned. I run the app from my sd card, I run the Queppc to launch the app.

The instruction said to just run the app from the sd card, no cab file to install. Do you have a fresh copy of the Garmin app?

I don't know how fresh it is, I bought it about 3 years ago, then got a free update from Garmin, but from the day I bought it it self installed, except for the last time, I went into the card, don't remember exactly how I did it but I got it to install on the device, I will look around and see if I can figure out how I did it.

This is a paid program and must be treated as one. Do not distribute the software on this site.

I believe I would try another download, like I said I bought mine from Garmin about three years ago, it installed on my Palm, I used a bluetooth GPS, no problem, then when I switched to WM it installed just like it should, found the GPS and just worked, on my Intrepid, it installed just like it should, then I moved it to a larger card, and I had to do a manuol install but it still found the GPS and worked, sorry I can't be of more help.

So I finally got it to work, it was minor mistake on my behalf. I didn't put the right device ID in. Now I need to find a way to unlock the 2010 maps.

On that I have no idea, I just contacted Garmin to find out about buying an update, tried to influence them by complaining about how much I paid and now it is getting useless, but no go!
I am looking for a different GPS program from a company interested in treating their customers right!!!
Terry

Edited to add: I have found a couple of possibilities, ZorroGPS, and Copilot that look to be about as good if not better then Garmin, and seam to be commited to providing mapping updates for people who buy their program, and at a very competative price.

Finally got garmin app loaded and I was able to unlock the map for 2010. The app runs kind of slow, maybe due to me running the app off the sd card.

If by slow you mean you get to the turn before the program does, that is a known issue with Garmin, GPS lag, the program was intended to run from a card.
I never did get a dependable on the intrepid version of ZorroGPS, they are supposed to contact me about this in the next day or two, but ZorroGPS had no lag what so ever running from the card, if they are able to streamline this app I think it will be one of the best GPS programs available, I liked it, such a shame it will not run dependable on the Intrepid.

I meant it takes a while to calculate routes and download traffic etc.

Yeah that's normal, the program has to try every possible route to where you want to go to determine which is fastest, and which roads actually go through so you don't end up on a dead end, compaired to other programs I have tried I think Garmin is pretty quick, and the routes seam to be the best routes, once you are going the off route recalculations are pretty fast.
