cool find! 8) i wonder if this method works on sprint too?

tenthirty2 12-27-2006 03:33 PM

Haven't looked at Sprint's site to say for sure. I have another method of snagging ringtones that I'll post later today, it's a similar method of toying with the html code. You have to be a little more patient with it though, I found a root directory on a ringtone website that gives you access to every ringtone in their database, but you have to painstakingly use a trial and error method, cause the files aren't categorized in any rational way. You don't really know what you're looking at til you actually play the link to the file. Enough about that though, be on the lookout for it this evening.

http://getitnow.vzwshop.com/wmpPopup.aspx?track=http://mobileimage.ztango.com/sound/vttone/006025171418341103.mp3&title=Smack%20That%20(feat% 20Eminem)&artist=Akon&contentId=41360&contentType= RT

Most of that url is garbage, BUT, notice the "TRACK=HTTP://" portion of the address? There's the meat and potatoes boys. Highlight that portion of the address, should be something like this:

http://mobileimage.ztango.com/sound/...1418341103.mp3

Disregard the part that begins "&title=Smack%20That%20...etc" Cut and past the aforementioned URL into a new page, and an embedded media player should appear playing the streaming audio file. I just noticed it's actually the Apple Quicktime player that plays in my Firefox Browser.

Right click anywhere inside the webpage, click "save as source", and rename as "SmackThat.mp3" or whatever the file may be in your case. No messy audio editing, no scouring forums for zip files, only to unzip and play the ringtone to find out you don't like it.

Preview it. Hack it. Own it.

Merry Christmas 8)

K, sorry, didn't deliver the alternate method last night as promised. Went out and got a little tipsy instead. BUT, better late than never. Here's the root directory I was talking about in my previous post:

http://mobileimage.ztango.com/sound/

AND

http://mobileimage.ztango.com/sound/vttone/

Click this parent directory, have at a little trial-and-error clicking, and explore to your little hearts' content. :)

anther way to get to the files quickly and dl them all would be to use a program called Flashget

launch Flashget then launch file explorer than type in the url posted previously into the address bar. be advised it will slow you down a bit as its a huuuuuuuge source its tappping into
