Re: HOW TO: Customize TouchFLO3D / Manila Themes

GoodThings,

Man, I have a new found respect for Theme builders. I am understanding what to do, and how to do it...that is not the problem. Its just a TRULY daunting task. Where to begin and whatnot...

However I am determined. I want to create a Fallout 3 theme for touchflo, and I will do so. Its most assuredly NOT going to be a quick thing, but if my idea is possible, it should be pretty nice.

Do you know about size restrictions regarding the icons? I realize the bigger in size they are the more it will adversely affect touchflo, so I plan on keeping them as close to the original as possible. I am just curious if they have to meet some 'exacting' size restriction.

Thanks

For the call history tab, the only one that works with the Sprint ROM is the one that I have posted in this thread. It is the "Bepe .95 Fix" cab on the XDA thread.

Start Menu Highlight Colors are in HKLM\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu

Task Manager Highlight Colors are in HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager

You'll find ManilaCustom** values that need modified. It's not very easy to tweak them since they're binary, and the task manager ones especially have all the colors in one value...

That pattern I use is something like this (with 00 as required separators):

Code:

TITLE,NORMALTEXT,HIGHLIGHTTEXT,DISABLEDTEXT,SUBNORMALTEXT,SUBHIGHLIGHTEXT,SUBDIS ABLEDTEXT,OnOffNORMALTEXT,OnOffHIGHLIGHTTEXT,OnOffDisabledText

FFFFFF00FFFFFF00FFFFFF0033333300C1C1C100C1C1C10033333300FFFFFF00FFFFFF0033333300

It doesn't break it. Comm Manager doesn't allow you to toggle wifi while it's connected to the computer. If you're not able to toggle it while it's disconnected it is an unrelated issue to another tweak in Diamond Tweak or Advanced Config... search the Touch Pro forum for a fix.

First of all, GOOD LUCK!

Second, I definitely don't make any size changes. Ever. All the graphic sizes are pretty hard coded in the manila files, so if yours don't match, they'll get mangled.

That said, there are several graphics (most I've documented) that don't work well with Manila Editor. I'm not entirely sure how some people have gotten around the issues, to be honest, although I've seen several themes that do so. If you find something I should add, feel free to let me know!

Can this run on the mogul?

GoodThings2Life 11-22-2008 11:12 PM

Re: HOW TO: Customize TouchFLO3D / Manila Themes

No. Manila2D is what's available for the Mogul and Touch devices, and they have their own thread for their types of themes.

Had to hard reset today and first thing I did was to reinstall your stuff, tested it before I installed anything else, and everything is working fine. Last time I installed wmwifirouter around the same time and I think it broke my wifi comm manager.

I have been attempting to add the the call history tab but keep running into some kind of problem. I added the section of code from the first page along with adding the extra file to the windows folder. When I load up and go to the history tab everything looks good but then when I leave the history tab which ever tab I go to appears blank and Manila is looked up. I have to toggle it off then on in today settings to get it to work again. Any chance you can post a version of the 26948339_manila file you are using so I can try it or at the very least open it side by side with mine to compare?

You need to install the attached manila file on that post as well as the code in 26948339_manila. Without the extra file I attached (extract and place in Windows folder), it will lock up like that.

I have never used Diamond Tweak or Advanced Config, and I am unable to use the wifi switch in comm. manager. Even when it is enabled going through start, settings, connections, wireless lan; it still shows as "off" in comm. manager. Other than that, HUGE thumbs up on your modifications!

Hey Good Things...

Have a rookie question for you if you could indulge.

I have a Touch Diamond since I returned my Touch Pro. I didn't use the slide out keyboard at all and didn't like the bulk.

My question is; do most or all of the registry edits and cabs you've created work on the Diamond as well?

I would think so, but would like your input

By the way, everything I used of your's worked great on the pro

Thank You

Please check it out... I have installed your "tweaks only" package and the blue modified theme. I can't even turn wifi on by clicking "Turn on Wireless LAN" in settings, connections, wireless lan. The only way I can enable wifi now is by going to settings, connections, wifi, menu, turn on wi-fi. I've had this phone for a month already and can guarantee this issue arose after installing one of the two packages from you. Thanks again for your help :)

tek (and others),

I did discover the issue today. Because I just exported my registry settings to create the registry section for the comm manager colors, it exported the \ in the WLAN's Device Name setting as a \\ instead of \ ... Stupid thing!

Anyway, I fixed it and have reposted the cab files. You should replace the old ones with the new. Also, if you want to fix it without reinstalling, just go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\WLAN and remove the extra \ in the DeviceName entry.

Re: HOW TO: Customize TouchFLO3D / Manila Themes

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for posting the clear and white flip clocks for Sprint.

I just installed Manilla Customizer today from XDA Developers:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...99&postcount=1

Although the curtains, icons etc seem to work fine, the flip clocks that come with it don't work right on the Sprint/CDMA phones (apparently). I took the zip files you provided, made directories and .jpgs for them as per the Manilla Customizer instructions, and I was able to apply them through that software package!

I'd like to have the today screen background on all tf3d pages, but I'm hesitant to overwrite the original Manila files that come with the device. Does anyone have a zip of the original files for the Sprint Diamonds, or has that change been made into a cab yet?

Cheers,

Jeff

Does anyone know how to change the fonts? I found some tutorials on how to change the WHOLE font by using a font editor and renaming it to Tahoma, HelveticaNueu.. etc. But I want to just change the font for the text in the Mail tab where the subject and body is. I sometimes get emails in Korean and it doesn't show up.

Home and Programs are both listed in that file... I just checked to be sure. Home is at the beginning, and Programs is usually right in the middle.

I have not made any effort to change fonts, but I have seen people on XDA do it. Search their Themes forum for info on that, or else I'll try to post a link on here later.

Here is the red file and a blue file... just unzip the one you want and place the manila file in your phone's \Windows folder.

Re: HOW TO: Customize TouchFLO3D / Manila Themes

Hello,

First of all. Thank you very much for the changes you have made to my touchpro. It is more responsive now.

I have one question. I am trying to change my clock to the glass clock. What I did was I downloaded the files to my desktop. unzipped them. connected the phone through USB Disk Drive. Pasted into memory card and then browsed in the phone to memory card. copied files to windows folder but it did not work.

It said that I either have not enough memory or i'm not allowed to change the files. It did mention originally when I pasted the files into the windows folder whether I wanted to replaced the files already there with the ones i was bringing in.

If you can help me with this I appreciate. I am not sure whether I'm supposed to attempt this through the manila editor.

I discussed this in post 3... the short answer is that the call history and calendar tabs are pretty pointless since there's no real functionality with them. The communications tab is functional, but there are a lot of issues with the font colors (personally, the two solutions from XDA are less than appealing).

I assume that you did disable/re-enable TouchFLO3D after the change? Beyond that, I've not seen any sign that those can't be changed, but I haven't tested it, so I'm not sure. Try editing 26948339_manila instead.

You didn't disable TouchFLO3D when you copied them to the Windows folder. Start > Settings > Today > Items tab, uncheck TouchFLO3D and try again.

Changing the Internet Globe Icon or Remove the YouTube Link
For some reason, Manila Editor has a really hard time replacing this graphic. In fact, if you even try, you'll end up with a "white out" effect where the icon belongs. The actual manila files in question are:

Globe: 7d3f1247_manila
Globe Selected: 3f00cd2f_manila

However, until Manila Editor works for this graphic, you might think you're out of luck. Not really... instead of those two files, create your own graphics based on 512x256 dimensions with 96dpi and save them as Globe.png and Globe_Selected.png. Then, edit 27c65cbd_manila instead. Change the code for the entire file to look like this:

Code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
<InternetPortal>
<IncludeUserFavorites>True</IncludeUserFavorites>
<Banner
  DefaultImagePath="\Windows\Globe.png"
  SelectedImagePath="\Windows\Globe_Selected.png"
  Width="480"
  Height="215" />
<OperatorLinks>
  <Link
    Text="YouTube"
    Executable="\windows\youtube.exe"
    ImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\youtube.qtc" />
</OperatorLinks>
</InternetPortal>

Oh, speaking of 27c65cbd_manila... if you remove the code between the OperatorLinks section, you'll also get rid of the YouTube Link on the Internet tab.

question how do i go about adding my own links in there with web favacons, the same way youtube was there but using my own favorite sites.

If all you want is a site, just start bookmarking things in Opera. They won't use the favicons, however.

If you want to replace or add links to net-based programs and sites, you need this section of code duplicated and edited:

Code:

  <Link
    Text="YouTube"
    Executable="\windows\youtube.exe"
    ImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\youtube.qtc" />

For example, let's say you wanted to add a link for Google Maps:

Code:

  <Link
    Text="Google Maps"
    Executable="\Program Files\GoogleMaps\GoogleMaps.exe"
    ImagePath="\Path to Image Here\Image.png" />

I'm not sure if this works for web sites, however, I'm not sure why it shouldn't work (in theory). You'll need to supply your own images.

Hey, thanks very much for your response!

I installed the files in the zip "Backgrounds+FlipClock (Glass).zip".

This does install the clear flip clock and does provide the TF3D background behind all tabs, but it also disables the ability to open the calendar from the appointment list on the home page. Anyone else notice this?

Below the "call history", TF3D lists your appointments. Before installing these files, I could click on an appointment and was taken to the calendar application. After installing these files, the calendar application does not open after I click on an appointment (the appointment just turns yellow; clicking it multiple times does not help).

Cheers,

Jeff

There is no real solution (at least nothing dependable). Some images simply can't be changed easily, and some you have to try the approach of changing the header option or trying the "Opera icon" approach.

All of the hacked files posted here are based on previously posted solutions (here and XDA) and have been offered as-is. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Manila hacking isn't a perfect science and is often an act of compromise.

Only the content I actually claim is mine (like the Sprint Manila Blue packages) are promised to provide a full experience.

I haven't made any attempts to edit the Landscape mode since I can count on one finger the number of times I've spent more than 10 seconds looking at it. I'll add it to a list of things to look into this weekend (and of course, if you find a solution on your own this week, you're welcome to share it here).

You'll need to provide any custom icons on your own... PNG format works best, in my opinion. :)

All of the hacked files posted here are based on previously posted solutions (here and XDA) and have been offered as-is. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Manila hacking isn't a perfect science and is often an act of compromise.

Hey thanks again for your response!

Just wanted to ask whether you personally also have the problem with accessing the calendar from the TF3D home menu, or is just a few of us?

I only use my own "Sprint Manila Blue" package installed, so no I definitely don't have any issues with mine. I haven't extensively tested the flip-clocks, but I do know there are a LOT of quirks with the Backgrounds on all tabs package.I'd be extremely cautious using it and weigh in your own mind whether that hack is really worth the quirks.

The background on all tabs is still being worked on.. If you have a base set up and install the cab, it will work, BUT it destroys your stock clock..

How can I change the "manila" of the "internet" from the opera6 to their own IE?

Is there any way you can set up a different background picture for each tab?

Is there a CAB anywhere that can add the calender tab on TF3D.. i seen on youtube and someone had it. When on calendar tab it showed the month view. I thought it is pretty dope.

You can install it, but A) it doesn't do anything except show the calendar, and B) you're stuck with the iPhone calendar icon, and C) when I tried it, it jacked up the slider and crashed Manila periodically.

Not something I recommend unless/until they make it do something.
