Android Vs TP2
What is the main difference between the two, like what are the pro and cons of them i have the touch pro, and im thinking of upgrading but nor sure if to the hero or TP2. From what i've heard u can do alot more with the android platform, but is it still windows based, im kinda clueless when it comes to this. any advice would be appreciated Thanks :)

Re: Android Vs TP2
the time it will take u to read the post of people giving you their opinions on the phones, you could go to google and find this information out yourself. Not trying to be disrespectful bet yet insightful. :)

Re: Android Vs TP2
Actually, I've been wondering the same myself recently. And I did do a bit of searching around. Most people comparing the two seem to have knowledge of Windows Mobile that dates back to 2004 or only second-hand knowledge. "Windows Mobile is slow and you have to reset the phone every day!" is a pretty common "comparison" made between WinMo and Android. Or "WinMo lags behind all current OSes." Which is so general it's hard to believe.
I almost feel like the only two things tarnishing WinMo's reputation are 1) Sometimes not a beautiful interface 2) Older devices crippled by, say, Verizon or just really early version of WinMo that were crash-prone. |
Re: Android Vs TP2
I just learning about an office program for Android that can edit MS Office documents, so now it seems Android can do everything Windows can do, and be a lot more customizable. I'm hoping the new Droid comes to Sprint, I'll happily sell my TP2 for that.

Re: Android Vs TP2
So that's it? An Office program for Android is the silver bullet? Now that there's this one program that can edit Office documents, Android has finally leapfrogged Windows Mobile? Wow, you would think they'd have gotten on that quicker if that's the case.

Re: Android Vs TP2
Haha, so that really is it? I'm not refuting what you're saying, just surprised.
So Android can now do anything Windows Mobile can do? But Android is more customizable? How so? (I'm genuinely curious, not being sarcastic). |
Re: Android Vs TP2
the android is very smooth. I have both hero and tp2.
I love android interface much more, for example the widgets you can customize on as many screens as you like, then save that layout and start a new one. and load the other one when ever necessary. I have one for work and one for home. Its much smaller and not a keyboard which has it drawbacks. tons of free apps already and more keep coming out. Hero has youtube, and supports all google app, loading contacts from tweeter and facebook into contacts was a breeze. It has all the sprint programs as well, navigations and what not. I'm hoping that we can have android ported to tp2, then I would be a very happy camper. |
Re: Android Vs TP2
I think multiple home screens in which any any shortcut, contact, app, or widget can be placed, and in any order/arrangement is above what my version of WM can do. And this is aside from the themes.
As for the other guy, I don't know about tethering, but I thought I read PDAnet had a program out for that, like they do for WM. And I'm pretty the Hero has a Youtube app just like my TP2. As far as flash goes, I've never been able to see flash content, but that's supposed to change in '10 with Adobe's new mobile release, which includes WM and Android OS. Finally, I like my Sprint nav and TV, which I would still get. So to summarize, I can get the same functionality I require, but have the ability to customize my multiple homescreens to suit my needs. Seems like a good situation to me. Edit - ^ yes, an Android port to TP2 would be a dream come true! Awesome looking phone, awesome keyboard, and what's shaping up to be awesome OS! |
Re: Android Vs TP2
But can't WinMo do much of the same with PointUI or SPB Shell?

ms3.5 is a rip off of some of the android features. I guess you could, but the android os is way smoother with tons of more apps and what not. Havint to install all that on Winmo to even kinda compete with the android , no thanks. |

1. pdanet, wifi tether, htc internet sharingif you have PAM. The others were removed from market but still availalble via net 2. Sprint nav? If you want real 3d look up layer reality browser that uses the digital compass (wm doesnt possess) 3. Hahahaha 4. SpbTv also available 5. Built in the Hero |

Also, is there a TV Out Option? I do enjoy this feature on my TP and TP2. Lastly, I know that 2.0 is far better than 1.0, but i really like HTC's Sense UI. I would assume that this cannot overlay all android OS's correct? For instance, on the Moto. Limited to HTC only? |
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)
I didn't go for the Hero because u lose the tp2 keyboard and exchange on the Hero doesn't sync Tasks.I really like the tp2 hardware though the screen technology on the Hero also seems really good. Waiting for android device with tp2 keyboard. |

Thread moved to Phone Comparison Forum!

NO I AM NOT KIDDING :joker: If you read my post I said, "I could be wrong", since I don't have an Android phone, I don't spend my time looking for all the Android apps, I know the G1 did not have much of the functionality I mentioned and I also know Anroid has come out with a couple ROM Updates. Calm down Hero guy...:laughing6: looks like the Samsung Moment on Sprint will be better than the Hero since it has an external keyboard. By the way: SPB TV doesn't compared to Sprint TV IMHO Sprint Nav is just as good if not better than many of the Stand alone GPS devices also. I honestly wasn't sure if it had youtube or not..:dontknow:.....:laughing6: |

Re: Android Vs TP2
I thought I would never leave WM since I need to access servers with Remote Desktop. Lo and behold Android has 5 RDP clients available. 2 of which far outrank the Remote Desktop for WM6.5.
I just moved to the Android Moment from the TP and have not looked back once. Both may be just as customizable and I still have a soft spot for WM. But honestly, if they can pretty much do the same things then why would you stick with an OS that hasn't changed much since 2004? And yeah I used WM6.5. Different look, same OS. The Android has a lot more potential IMO. |
