Should I get it?

Hey everyone. I lurk around these forums all the time, but just registered today. I've been in quite a pickle recently, so I decided to post here to get some 3rd party opinions on the situation.

I'm looking to get a ppc, but which one to get is the problem. I seem to be stuck between the Omnia and the Diamond. I know that I do not want a hardware keyboard because I have always had them and want something different.

I am currently a member of verizon, so when I saw the Omnia i was :O I want that, but the diamond was originally what I wanted. If I was to choose the Diamond, then I would probably also switch to Sprint instead of getting one put on the vzw network just because I am getting tired of verizon.

One thing that is really knocking the Omnia for me is the resolution of the screen, compared to the diamond. For people that have it, could you explain how good/bad it is please. Also, how expensive is a plan with verizon to have unlimited data in it? I really don't want to go through their website searching for it when someone that has it could just tell me. I know Sprint is fairly cheap, so that's another plus for the diamond.

Lastly, customization doesn't seem that promising for the Omnia compared with the Diamond, but I may be wrong. Thoughts on this would help a lot.

Thanks in advanced!

The vga screen is a noticeable improvement over omnia. Verizon's everything plan is $140. Compared to Sprint at $99. HTC does rule this board. Just keep in mind Verizon's coverage can't be beat.

your right about coverage...but free roaming easily fixes that problem in most areas

Exactly my thought.

Re: Should I get it?

I was originally interested in getting the Diamond also. I go the Omnia instead and I think it was the right decision for me. The screen is bigger (3.2 compared to 2.8) so actually has more room for information then the Diamond does.

The omnia has the capability to have 32GB (8GB internal storage and a 16GB mSD card) of extra storage while the Diamond from Sprint maxes out at 4GB.

The camera is a 5MP auto focus with LED as compared to a 3.2MP auto focus camera.

The Samsung is customizable but not as much as the Diamond. Hoefully Verizon will release a full ROM soon and we might be able to customize ROMs just like the Diamond.

Verizon unlimited data is $29.99 on this phone. There is a $45 plan also but you only need this if you want to use Verizons' wireless sync program.

Re: Should I get it?

While the screen is larger, the resolution on the diamond is better. Is the res on the Omnia even bad though?

LOL... 8gb + 16gb = 24gb...but yea this is an HTC driven site...so the Diamond is more customizable at the moment...

as far as resolution I really can't tell the difference, I have a friend that has the Fuze and maybe i'm blind but I don't see anything that would make me go the the Diamond or Touch pro

I have verizons unlimited plan for 129.99 which is 99.99 + 29.99 for the unlimited data... but I prefer Vzw's superior customer service and if u have the insurance they basically ask no questions, they just replace ur phone...

the omnia screen is better to me.
i worked on two fuzes in the last two days and the vga screen makes the words tiny.
its very crisp but tiny.
the omnia is crisp and the words are normal.
i think its a fix for the tiny letters in vga phones.

Will the Omnia ever be fully customizable like the diamond? I'd like to do work on the Omnia, but it doesn't seem like there's much to do.

I have the diamond. You can make the font bigger on the diamond its just a setting. I have never owned the the omnia, but have compared the screen next to my diamond and liked the diamond screen better. I like to have a lot of options as far as roms go. so the diamond is for me. I guess it depends on what your looking for.

as soon as VZW releases an official ROM then yes... what do you want to do???

this has been discussed in many threads, but if you've been with Verizon for a while then you know it won't be soon enough to make anyone happy...

what is it that ur trying to do that you need the Omnia to be "more" customizable???

Games, GPS....or are you just a phone flashing junkie...?

Re: Should I get it?

I am currently leaving Sprint to join Verizon, as an employee and as a customer. I have used both devices, so here is my feedback.

1. Verizon is a much better run organization. Network, billing and customer care are all far better with VzW.
2. WQVGA is a lower resolution than the VGA of the Diamond. Only the iPhone has a better display than the Diamond in my opinion. That being said, the Omnia display is very nice and larger than the Diamond.
3. Limiting the memory capabilities of the Diamond removes it from consideration for me. I had a Touch Pro with a 16GB card. 10GB music, 3GB movies and a GB or so in files. I couldn't live with less.
4. The customization of ROMs is WAY overrated for the average user. Some custom ROMs are more stable or offer more efficient program operation but most consumers won't know the difference. Only us wackos really care about that stuff.
5. The Omnia is plenty customizable, particularly the user interface. On my new Omnia I will update the Opera Mobile, add SpbMobile Shell, Slide2Play, Slide2Lock, Pandora, WunderRadio, CorePlayer and many more applications that will make the device run just like I want it to.
6. Thickness - the Diamond is far too thick for what it offers. The Omnia is much thinner and more pocket friendly in my opinion.
7. Call Quality- Between HTC and Sprint, I don't know that you could get a worse combination for call quality. There are BT hacks to improve earpiece volume on the Diamond but it is still a pretty poorly designed phone. Read reviews on Samsung devices and they are usually known for having superior call quality and reception.

If you are really worried about the screen resolution, that is the only real advantage that I see to the Diamond. If you want an expandable, customizable device that has good call quality, customer service and network coverage, the Omnia is your device.

Hope this helps.

Well, I went up to the local vzw store today to check out the omnia in person and probably seal tho deal with it if I liked it enough.

Typically, verizon didn't have it there. So the wait continues. I've already been to sprint multiple times where I have played with the diamond. Yeah, it is a little thick, but I liked what I saw.

Alright, I saw this post earlier this morning when I didn't have time, but this is really a joke, I'm going to have to put a stop to that right about here.

1) Yes, I will agree with you that Verizon is typically a bit smoother in terms of the business, but look at it this way: The prices are exponentially higher, and the customer service is somewhat strict. With Sprint, you can call back multiple times until you get someone who will give you what you want. For an example: They weren't going to replace my Diamond at first, but I spoke to another(a manager) and she did it right away.

2) The Iphone has a better display than the Diamond? lol. Please. VGA is very pretty, everything looks flawless. The screen is quite large relative to the Diamond.

3) Memory is about the only fault I can think of on the Diamond, but really: If you need 10 gigs of music and a bunch of movies, you should probably have a device dedicated just to that, something like and Ipod Touch.

4) The ROMs. Biggest key difference. ROMs for the Omnia is basically just a few applications in kind of a "software suite". On the Diamond, we port XIPs, update the SYSs, beta test Windows Mobile 6.5, test various drivers, get new builds every week, do tons of registry edits. HTC is the heart of customization within Windows Mobile, and the Diamond is one of the most integral parts of their lineup. Omnia hasn't even fully cracked their ROM yet..

5) See above basically. We can do literally anything with the Diamond, do all you mentioned x 750.

6) The Diamond is about half an inch thick, and has a decent weight to it. It's not heavy, but you can tell it's solidly built and durable.

7) Alright. It's true that the Stock Sprint diamond has a small issue with it's Audiopara3 file, that it is a bit lower than it should be. It's the matter of replacing one file that boosts the sound incredibly, and makes audio vibrant and crisp. All Custom ROMs have this tweak installed.

He is worried about the most customizable phone, so you refer to him you "can install a bunch of apps". -_-

1. You can pretty much do that with Verizon reps too. Yes, it is more expensive but I still get better reception then Sprint phones in my area.

3. Or you get a device that has the capability of having more storage. The Omnia fits this while the Diamond does not.

4. Yes, it is nice to have that much customization but Omnias have WM6.5 ROMs too (i900). I was looking at one today. Unfortunately, the i910 hasn't been fully cracked yet but I have a feeling that is due to lack of people using it. That will change as more carriers pick up the Omnia. Bell is getting it now and they usually provide more updates.

6. You might want to do a little research on this comment. It has been proven in videos that the Omnia can with stand more damage and continue to work then the Diamond.

7. Yes true. Out of the box though the Omnia is better.

Re: Should I get it?

1. I live in a completely rural area and get more coverage with Sprint than I do Verizon at some spots, and Sprint roams on Verizon network.

3. I've agreed this is a fault on the current Diamond's setup, but it's not a giant difference. Like I said, you should have a dedicated device if you're completely into it...

4. It's nice? Have you ever owned an HTC handset? Do you know the feeling of getting new builds for you phone every few days, knowing that each is faster than the last, and that your phone is always going to continue to get better?

6. How abusive do you plan on being to your phone? I treat my Diamond like my baby, and anyone who's sensible will do the same.

7. Out of the box. Again, we can flash custom ROMs to do anything, to fix any issue, to add anything. No one who is a power user keeps it "out of the box". I'm sure uurrrnn will flash a custom ROM within the first few days.

3. I don't have to though and that is the point.

4. Owned several of them. Did I flash my phone? Yes. Will I flash the Omnia? Probably. Though I must say that I can do just about everything on this device without the need to flash to another ROM. It works well out of the box.

6. It's a phone. If I drop it I want to know that it is still going to work. In my line of work I need this. I've already broken some of my other devices because they can't stand a fall.

7. Nah, I know several people that are "power users" that don't feel the need to flash.

Thanks adrynalyne. I'm really leaning towards the Omnia now, I've seen a couple video reviews, comparisons with the diamond and other phones etc. Plus I'd like to help build a user base around it. Hopefully everything is good at the store when I check it out.

Thanks for everyones help here!

I didn't realize that this was Intx Johnny Jerkwad Blogoshere to put a stop to anything?
I don't see a single FACT that you disputed, you simply disagreed with my opinion.

Customizable does not mean that the guy wants to do custom ROMS, it just means he wants to make it his own.

If you think that you are the only person who can have an opinion and any other opinion must be stopped, then a community forum may end up being very disappointing to you. I completely expect people to have varying opinions from mine but I don't see any reason for you to attempt to put a stop to the madness of anyone not sharing your opinion.

Again, just my opinion and you can continue to be disrespectul of others opinions or you can choose to share ideas in a constructive forum so everyone can benefit from what they choose to utilize.

I would like to say this about Omina. The screen is not as good for movies. Diamonds is much harder to see.I have found with my omnia It works best with just today 2...Spb freezes it to much..Tried other but didnt work well. Omnia is best Verizon has at this time. I do wish the screen looked better. Sprint doesent have good enough coverage in my area. Not really much you can do to Omnia at this time....but it is sill a great phone in its own way.

I have used TouchPal for a few years and it works very well in portrait mode. The lack of landscape support is the only drawback that I have found. I have chubby fingers and I never use a stylus.
