6700 ----> TP or should I wait?

Please offer some advice here.
I want the new Touch Pro, but I have have
a hard time with the following items:

1- battery life
2- over-heating
3- no 3.5 mm jack

My real question is should I wait until the summer for a new
batch of phones- hopefully something like a Omnia with
better screen, or jump in and grab a Touch Pro.

Thanks

Confused.......

get the pro..... the omnias resolution is actually worse.... the screen is just bigger sized. also the battery life isnt as bad as most people make it out to be. also i doubt that there will be new summer ppcs, it took sprint 2 years to get the pro upgrade for the mogul

I think they are revising the Touch Pro right now, and it would be reasonable to expect them to start popping up in late January. If you want the Pro, you should wait until then.

If you can get by with your current phone, I'd probably wait for a new batch at phones at the very least. They are back ordered at most places across the nation anyways.

In the end, are those things listed a deal breaker and to much to deal with? If you answer that question then I think you have your answer.

i am waiting. as good as it is for a phone, waiting gives tme to work out bugs (officially and at xda and here). If what u have now is fine, give it a wait. it will be worth it.

Re: 6700 ----> TP or should I wait?

I switched from my 6700 to TP a month ago and love it. It's smaller, lighter, and faster than the 6700. I did have some difficulty finding one, but keep calling your local store (be that annoying guy) and it will pay off. I would strongly recommend considering just how badly you need the keyboard though as I debated whether I should return mine for a Diamond.

Battery Life's Better
Overheating hasn't been an issue (it is warmer than the 6700, but that's to be expected IMO).
I've been using the stock adapter for headphones thus far, but will be getting a new one soon (usb - 3.5). It sucks that they didn't just put in a 3.5 to start with, but with a new adapter it won't be any different than the 6700.

I was really hoping to hold out for the Touch HD, but when they announed it wasn't coming stateside I settled on the PRO and have benn happy since.

Something else to consider (which I found out too late) is that your current chargers and adapters will work. While the plug on the bottom is different (special mini-usb), regular mini-usb adapters plug in. Also, it comes with Microsoft Voice Command free, which is very nice (I had purchased it and had been using it on the 6700).

My biggest complaint is that the controls require human touch, so you can't dial with gloves on.

And don't forget, once you (find and) get one there's the 30 day return policy.

Hope that helps!

Re: 6700 ----> TP or should I wait?

I saw that Best Buy has plenty of the TP in stock for $199.
Battery life is something does concern me considering that
4 hours later it could be dead. If that issue iscolved then I
would feel more comfortable grabbing the TP.

Saumaun- You mentioned revising.. What do you think they will
do- Software or hardware change?

Thanks for all your input. I just dont want to jump into a F' up
phone.

Thanks

Thanks

Both. Heatshield is most likely for the hardware.

I say get it, if you keep waiting, that's all you'll do. Buy one now, so what if something new comes out mid next year or late next year. When it comes time to replace your pro, there'll be something even better out. You'll never be ahead and even if you try, you won't be for long. I say get the best right now and enjoy it.

Re: 6700 ----> TP or should I wait?

Switch. I've owned both the 6700 and the 6800 before getting a TP last month.

Are there still some issues with the TP? Of course.

BUt that being said, of the three phones it is the most functional, and stable phone I've own. Again, it isn't perfect but it really usable right out of the box, unlike the Apache and esp. the Titan.

When you read up on the phone here at PPCgeeks, of course you are going to hear about all the problems. That's just human nature, those who are not quite satisfied will tend to speak up first. Those who are satisfiend tend not to post very much.

As for your issues, I don't think any of them should be deal breakers unless the headphone jack is THAT important to you. Of course there is a VERY good chance the next phone will not have the jack either.

I had it, returned it.

Still waiting for the right phone.

Got too hot, and won't talk for a reasonable time on the charger.

Worthless for business

It shouldn't get any hotter than the 6700, unless there is a problem. It's only got a slightly faster CPU, which should be more advanced, consume less power, run cooler, and scale down when not being used to it's fullest extent...

You can dial just fine with gloves on. The only controls that are capacitive are the botton ones. You can use the screen all you want. Last I checked, you can use the center/ok button with a glove. So, if you are typing a number, just hit the ok button and it dials. If you are finding it through call history, or through contacts, then obviously you don't need the capacitive send/end keys.

.

I thought it has a 528MHz cpu compared to 400 for the 6700 & 6800's.
That is a 32% increase!!

A 32% increase in processing power over a 5-year timespan is not that great ;)

Take this analogy into consideration:

My Athlon 1.4 Ghz used 2-3x more power than my Athlon 64 X2 4400+ @ 2.4Ghz. My new processor also runs at around 30 degrees Celcius, whereas my old chip ran at 70 or higher, even with aftermarket cooling.

Point is, just because newer chips are faster, doesn't mean they should use more juice. The opposite should be true, and IS for most devices.

HTC just needs to fix the radio. Simple as that.

That's an excellent point, and I think most users are forgetting about that. With the rate at which technology moves, there is no reason why a faster processor shouldn't draw far less power in 5 years.

At this point, it's clearly obvious that HTC screwed up on the the radio/power draw.

So that leads to two questions:

1) CAN they fix it?

and

2) WILL they fix it?

I'm pretty sure we know the answers already...

Re: 6700 ----> TP or should I wait?

1. Yes
2. Probably not. But then again, they do manage to push a few updates out for each device. Hopefully one of them will be for the TP's radio.
