Sprint Touch Pro or Verizon XV6850

First let me start by saying this is a great site with a wealth of information and I have been getting a great education from all of you who contribute here.

I have a dilemma that I'm hoping to get some help with.

I am a current Verizon customer with a terrible Moto Q that I can't wait to dump.

My dilemma is this: My new every two is coming up in January and I have have been following the Touch Pro for a while waiting for it's release. But now after much research I can't decide whether to buy the VX6850 and unlock/flash a new ROM and hope for good performance and hopefully an unlocked GPS that I can use with google maps OR pay more, get the Sprint TP and unlock/flash and setup for use on Verizon's network and get the added benefit of more RAM.

I guess my question is since the XV6850 has now been unlocked is there any added benefit in going with the Sprint TP? Or is there more risk due to the fact that I won't have a warenty or insurance if I use the Sprint TP on Verizon plus the extra cost of buying a phone with no contract.

All opinions are welcome and some plusses or minuses would be of real value.

I'm in the same boat and I'm looking at going with a Sprint one. The amount of free RAM on the Verizon TP is way too low. Run TouchFLO 3D and you're looking at 20 megs of free RAM.

Ouch.

I'm in the same boat as you however I just renewed my NE2 a few months ago :(

I think it all will come down to your personal preference. Right now I'm deciding to go with VZW's TP because of the larger keyboard and design (I actually like the VZW design better than the Sprint version). I've also decided to go this route because I won't have to fiddle around too much to get the device to work the way I want - going through the long process to make the Sprint one work on VZW's network would save me some money but I'd rather have a product that VZW will support fully (so I can possibly return it if need be or get a replacement).

I can deal with the crippled RAM through tweaks and the locked GPS I'm just hoping will get unlocked in the near future (not an immediate need for me either, just something nice to have). I might even disabled TF3D all together and use my own today screen applications that are more efficient for using it as a PDA

I can tell you this... my Sprint TP cost me about $20 more on ebay than a VZW TP would (including renewing at the 2yr contract price, plus $50 NE2 discount, plus $70 mail in rebate).

Yeah, they're ripping you off that bad.

Well, you could just switch to Sprint and probably get a better rate (unless you're on a VZW corporate plan or something).

Plus you'd get the phone at a better deal.

If you're convinced you'll never have a warranty issue with your phone then go for the Sprint version.. you can't beat the price difference vs. extra RAM... if I didn't get an xv6850 for free I would have considered that option.

However, having no warranty would probably end up burning me in the end... I like being able to easily call up vzw and get a replacement if something goes wrong on the device.. Hell, that's how I goet my xv6850 for free to begin with. I do it all the time... looking at $300+ for replacement just isn't feasible imo.

Oh and 20mb free on boot? come on. it's not THAT bad. I have 50mb free on boot with tf3d enabled and the device runs very snappy and smooth. Ya it would be nice to have the extra RAM but not at the sacrafice of warranty.

that's my 2c ;)

Not an option...I've thought that many times before but I've been around the cell phone block a few times and I'm sticking with Verizon as a provider...the phone selection may not always be good but I've never had a problem with their service/coverage.

I think this is really the issue holding me back...although I haven't had a problem with my Q for the past two years I've had problems in the past, twice with water. I just don't know if it's worth the risk of no warranty/insurance.

INSURANCE.

Hey, I, too am in the same boat. I have an awful Samsung SCH-i760 and can't wait to ditch it.

What about this??? But the Sprint version at Wirefly (or somewhere similar) and get the insurance for $49???

They have this from the National Cellular Owners Association. I researched that group and there are a lot of complaints = but it seems like if you really take the time to document your loss/theft, etc. - you can be okay. Granted, you can't just have it replaced for a ding. (But if you ding it and then, god forbid, someone steals it, you should be okay)...

Thoughts?

Yes! Protect My New Phone With Device Protection Service!
Fact: 25% of cell phones will be lost, damaged or stolen this year. The cost to replace your new LG Vu CU920 Black without a new contract would be $300.*
Protect your new phone with Device Protection Service for just $49.99 for one year with
NO deductible.

Sprint's network isn't bad at all. Sure they dont have the cool advertising that others do but the service and evdo-rev a is phenomenal on the touch pro.... that along with their rate plans makes it a no brainer for me...

450 min + unl text/pic/vid messaging + unl data = $69.99/mo
900 min + " " = $89.99/mo
UNL everything = $99.99/mo

and you can get a warranty..... and instead of having 20 mb free you can have 120...

thats my 29,999 cents
