Touch or Diamond??
I know the differences between these two phones and I thought I was armed with everything I needed to know to go to the Sprint Store and upgrade.
I am due for an upgrade 9/1 and knew I could get them to upgrade me a week early, they always have done that. But my experience made me frustrated and my $30 plan is the ONLY thing keeping me with Sprint. I have $30 SERO plan, I was trying to decide Mogul vs. Touch to replace my absoutley horrible Q. I decided to read online about both and learned about the Diamond coming out shortly. I have decided the Diamond would be awesome but cannot afford the price of $299 after rebate so I am going to get the Touch for $99, plus $35 for 8GB SDHC. Sprint Store Experience: When I showed the guy what phone I wanted he said "You want that phone?" and gave me no explanation, and then after I confirmed he said "Are you sure you want that phone" and gave me a disgusted look. After all of the confirmations it took 10 minutes to try and explain that SERO plan does not require the $25 Vision pack to get the Rebate, the guy had "been around for 5 years" and never heard of such a plan, looked at my account and said "No you don't have a data plan, I have no idea how you are getting internet on your phone now but you need to upgrade to get internet for a PDA phone" Finally another guy came over and knew SERO and said that it was impossible to upgrade phones in the store since they have yet to figure out a way to attach the $25 data plan on it. I walked out. My main question is: What wouldn't I want the Touch? I don't have another $200 for the Diamond. I have found Moguls online for $200 used. I had a 6700 in the past and traded it for the Q but sick of the Q completely. |

Re: Touch or Diamond??
So you plan on buying a Touch with out the rebate just because someone said rebate won't work at the store?
Try again by ordering the phone by calling sprint or better email sprint (I prefer this method). Try emailing them explain your situation and ask them to place an order for that upgrade price. They will ship it to you in like two days. |
Re: Touch or Diamond??
to answer your question. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the touch. Some sales persons (including me from time to time) just think people should buy the latest and greatest no matter what but at the same time real people have budgets. the other thing that i can think of is that the sales person may get paid more for selling a higher priced phone.
as for your options, I'd say call customer service and order a touch, as much as i love my mogul i would say buy a new touch over a used mogul |

Re: Touch or Diamond??
Here is another thing I found when buying the touch. Most of the sales people in two or three different stores also steered me away from the touch. Here is my theory on this... All of the ones who told me i didn't want the Touch had been using some kind of pda or a phone that had an actual keyboard. When the Touch came out and they played with it for a while, they were so used to having a full qwerty, tactile, positive response keyboard that they hated using the Touch.
You will find many posts here about various types of keyboards and I'm sure you will find one you are comfortable with. Myself, this was my first pda phone so i was very used to using XT9 for typing/texting and this actually works quite well on the Touch and also gives the largest keys while in this mode. Hope that helps |
Re: Touch or Diamond??
Yeah I know I can get the Touch on this plan, just thought I would share my experience. I just get sick of being treated like a worthless customer when I should be treated like a VIP with this plan. Not that I pay a ton of money but the plan was setup to be this way. I should be treated much better than other customers instead I keep finding that Sprint store employees are extremely uneducated and are only able to focus on one objective at a time and if you don't fit that picture then screw you.
I hope I will be happy with the Touch, I have big fingers and have found different keyboards online so I think it will work out. Both the Touch and Diamond are the same in this respect though. This is just the 2nd time I have been told by a Sprint employee that the Touch is basically junk and wanted to be reassured that it is not. |

love my touch

Re: Touch or Diamond??
I love my Touch too. And, you can get a microSD card and put it in the Touch. Can't do that in the Diamond! Ok, so I know there's 4 GB of RAM in the Diamond. But what if you wanted to put 8 GB or 16 GB of music and videos on your phone? The way I see it, I can ditch my iPod and just keep rotating microSD cards in and out of my Touch. No need to carry 2 devices. Just my .02.
