Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM troubleshooting

I figured I'd get this started because it was mentioned in one of the posts.

Problems I have having so far:

1) The most annoying one. Sometimes, if I hit too many buttons too fast, the device will lock up. Nothing works except for "power" which turns the screen blank and then hitting it against shows the locking screen button but it is impossible to get out of. The only fix is removing the battery and putting it back in.

2) Sometimes when using an application, such as Advanced Configuration Tool, I'll get what looks like a magnifiyer, then it fades away and the entire phone is locked up and I have to remove battery and put back in to reboot.

3) Some menus, dropdowns, dialog boxes and text is way too large. I can't find any way to fix it. Anyone else having this issue?

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM troubleshooting

On the 6.5.1 rom when I would try to use PIMBackup it would freeze after selecting the drop-down box.

Did exactly what OP's #1 did: froze, nothing worked except the power button.

did you see a little magnifying glass pop up too? and then fade away? what the hell is that and how do you get rid of that? lol

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM troubleshooting

Yeah, what is the magnifying glass? It seems like it could be a cooL feature if I knew how to use it. Also, a mouse cursor appears occasionally; how do I use that?!

Also, just use the soft reset button. It's less effort than taking your battery out.

edit: I haven't seen lockups for any of the reasons that you have listed, though. When I see the magnifying glass tool, it just goes away and everything's still normal. Since there aren't more reports, I'd guess that it has to do with software that you've installed.

it only freezes when i click on a drop down menu. they are also very huge. This is not an example of it crashing, obviously, but is an example of all my menus being HUGE. here is a screen shot...

Ya broski, the "fix" (that's in quotes because nothing is broken, just a personal tastes thing) is to switch to a different TSK.

A .tsk file is a theme file. Change your Today theme.

I to have lock up problems, mine are limited to internet explorer. going to fast or doing to much.
That being said, I am very grateful for all the hard work done.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM troubleshooting

same here.

there has GOT to be a fix for this.

UPDATE: actually, installing realvga fixed the freezing problems AND the excessively large menus and dialog boxes but then i lost my bottom bar. dang it. maybe someone can patch that at xda developers.

My freezing is from when I use My Mobiler and I am connected to it. I have to pull the battery and start over. I have not added any apps other than this.

He means switch to an older Treo one--it removes all the formatting/skinning from WM6.5 on the menus--they look normal.

I used classicblack.tsk.

The magnify-er is part of WM6.5.1--still in development.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM troubleshooting

thank you. I like it but it doesn't fix the problem. everything is still large. blah! maybe i will just install 6.1u (u for unbloated version). i have no idea how to fix this. my guess is the only way it can be done is an updated realvga hack. i didn't have the dropdown menu crash/magnifying glass issue when i had that on, but then the bottom toolbar was white.

Try WM6.5 first--it is much faster and more stable than 6.5.1 and has more "normal" menus/buttons. Some of the menus are still large but overall I really like WM6.5 on the Treo Pro.

Well i haven't seen anyone mention this yet, when i put my ringtones into the MY DEVICE/MY DOCUMENTS/RINGTONES folder and select that to be the ringer the phone wouldn't ring, not even the pop up would show up. But i figured it out, put all of your ringtones in the MY DEVICE/WINDOWS/RINGS folder and they work properly.

It works perfectly for me. I disabled the magnifier by using a registry editor to change the enable value to 0. Here's the instructions.

To disable the magnifier please modify the folowing registry key from 1 to 0:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\MAGNIFIER]
"Enable"=dword:0

That was taken from a thread at XDA-Developers.

I'm having problems with the camera. My camera short cut will not open the camera and neither will the soft key when I'm looking through my pictures. I have to go to Start then camera and when I click that in the center of the screen the icon in the menu is still stuck in the middle I think it's because of the loading circle. I can still take pictures it's just annoying. Any one else have this issue?

6.5.1 is way too buggy for my liking -- gotta go back to the other 6.5 :P.
...although 6.1 DOES work flawlessly, but i cant live without the scrolling anymore...

Worked Great! Folks, this has fixed the only real issue I had with 6.5.1. If you are having the magnifying glass lock up problem, do this and it will stop it. And you will love 6.5.1!

Thanks mth91!!!

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM troubleshooting

I posted this problem in another thread, but I haven't received any response yet. I'm having an issue with the 6.5.1 ROM. I have the ringer volume turned up, and I verified that the ringer I have selected works by playing it. However, when I receive a call, I don't get any ring. I Do get the notification ring that I missed the call. I verified that the ringer is turned up but still no love. Any suggestions are appreciated!

thank you.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM troubleshooting

alright, i'll ask here and hope that someone might know a way to fix it...i installed cfay's winmo 6.5.1 final version yesterday on my treo pro, everything is working great....except the phone.

for whatever reason, whenever i call someone, i can hear them just fine, but they can't hear me at all. any ideas on what i can do to fix this or am i going to have to go back to 6.1/6.5?

thanks in advance. i mean after all, isn't the phone supposed to be one of the most important things on here? heh

salzion.09

update: ok, so now it basically is no sound works at all aside from being able to hear people talk, and i tried applying the patch for the treo ringer update, and that didn't fix the problem, so any suggestions before i have to put 6.1 back on here would be appreciated
