Is the Treo Pro AWESOME?

Cause im thinking about dumping my diamond for it, the diamond sure has nice features but I seriously can't stand it. On screen keyboards can die for all I care and the overall touch flo interface is mediocre at best, it looks nice but is far from functional (props to the music player though, it works fantastic albeit some annoying lag). The Treo Pro is dirt cheap without a contract wich is exactly what im looking for.

I have some questions for you treo pro owners:

Is the phone laggy or fast?

Did you get accustomed to the keyboard quickly?

What are your overall thoughts after months of use?

Thanks!

Fyi I was looking to get the touch pro 2 but decided against it, it has some fantastic features but it's really not the all in one phone that im looking for, maybe the touch pro 3.

Re: Is the Treo Pro AWESOME?

First I can tell you from experience that switching from the Touch Diamond to the Treo Pro was a great move.

The phone is just as fast if not faster than the Touch Diamond. I have had some lag, but that is only when using Opera Beta.

The keyboard was my only real concern when getting this phone, and it really a decent keyboard (assuming you don't have Goliath sized hands). I haven't made many mistakes no it, and I can type fairly fast. Also, you will get accustomed to using the top half or tips of your fingers, which isn't bad at all.

I have only had the phone for about 2 weeks now, so I can't comment on months of use but I can tell you that with a little time, this device can really be made very useful. Things like: HTC Home PLugin, Real VGA, skyfire, Opera browser, Ftouch Flo (flick scrolling). Also, coming from the touch diamond this phones battery life is amazing. I wake up at 7 and have the phone and using sms, mms, about 1-2 hours in calls, moderate internet, and apps, it will last me til I go to bed around midnight with 25-40% battery life.

Good luck!

The touch diamond battery is absolutely awful, even with all the roms and crap to fix it, I have one more question:

Does the phone ever get hot, I know this with my diamond that it gets burning hot at some points. Thanks for your input.

No, I have never had it hot, sure, if I am running a lot of applications it might get warm, but never hot. If you have any other questions just ask. I have had an interesting week getting things all set up, so if you run into any problems when you get the device let me know.http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Q1: Its pretty fast and snappy, and I can agree with the previous post about opera beta. I love opera 9.7b but it is a memory hog. Snappier than my touch pro..!

When it come down web browser opera mini runns so smoove and fast its unrealistic..!

Q2: I love the keyboard... Just keep it below your shoulder and above your waist...!O! The keyboard is very productive...

Q3: Put it like this I put my belove touch pro down, for the palm pro...FaCt
It feels great in my hand, a very solid device. When I first held the palm pro it felt good, reminded of my lil brah's iphone a little.

beside screen resolution you will not be disappointed, palm screen resolution isnt bad at all its just not tf3d...

I um'ed an ar'ed over the Treo Pro when it first came out. I was using a Touch Pro at the time. I did what you did...read and asked questions. I finally decided to get it. After a few months I was back to my Touch Pro though, and here's why....[and these are only my opinions and my experiences, and I'm not here to rain on anybody's parade. I just want to provide an unbiased post]...

#1 Screen size and resolution. Had I not started with a Touch Pro I probably wouldn't have realized what I was missing, but 320x320 compared to the Touch Pro was a huge issue for me. I also experienced issues with certain programs wanting to work in landscape mode because of the 320 and not 240 width. I tried RealVGA and it did help, but it just wasn't the same.

#2 Cramped keyboard. I really really tried to get used to it because I so wanted a qwerty keyboard on the front of the device. Coming from a Touch Pro at the time and a Titan before that, the slide-out keyboard is great for typing, but sliding in and out and rotating is a bit of a pain. However, and it is probably just me and my fingers!, but I had constant issues with typos (missed or wrong key presses) on the Treo Pro though.

I switched back to the Touch Pro and have not regretted it. At the end of the day, I have come to this conclusion: They simply don't make a device with a non-sliding style qwerty keyboard and large screen with high-res. They may be out there, I'm not sure, but not in Canada anyways :disgust:

I don't use TF3D and use SPB MS3 instead. This was another issue on the Treo Pro though as the screen was too small to accomodate everything you can add with that UI.

I did love the overall size / form factor of the Treo Pro. It was pocketable, thin, and light. I had no performance issues in terms of speed. The extra hard keys were an added bonus, particularly when you consider what I lost going from a Titan to a Touch Pro. Without a doubt, it is a sexy device!

Again, these are only my opinions, and everyone has their own needs, preferences, and ergonomic requirements. The Treo Pro is a really nice unit with a beautiful form factor. In a perfect world we'd be able to rent these things for a month to try them out first ](*,)

Good luck with what ever choice you make.

EDIT: Damn....now you've gone and made me get my Treo Pro out of the cabinet where it's been sat nice and quiet for a few months, and I'm um'ing and ar'ing again as I play with it

Re: Is the Treo Pro AWESOME?

Thanks for your input covkid. I really am not looking for a flashy interface though, I'm totally ok with the standard windows mobile interface for now seeing as this will be a temporary phone for me and I'm really all about productivity.

I just have one question though, does the treo pro have the option to directly upload pictures to facebook? My touch diamond has this functionality and I absolutely love it.
