Audio Adapter?

I am looking for an adapter that will go from micro usb (phone) to 2.5 or 3.5mm audio plug.
My previous phone was a Sprint Mogul, and I used the supplied adapter to listen to music in my truck and at my apt. I want to use my 800w just like I used my Mogul, as an MP3 player while I am mobile or at home. But I have not found any audio adapters that work. The 2 I have bought off ebay were designed for use with a headset, so instead of stereo out, they were mono out with mic in.
Does anybody out there have a working adapter they can reccomend?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Audio Adapter?

In short, no straight adapter to go from microUSB to 2.5mm or 3.5mm for the 800w as the microUSB is strange on this one.

But, there IS a solution that is cheap (~$15) and is quite interesting in of itself:

Yeah i saw that and to me theres a big difference between an adapter and taking apart your phone and adding a jack. LOL

I can deal with that. I was about to try an adapter that Motorola has for the V9m, supposed to take the audio and make it work with a 2.5mm stereo plug. But i also heard from another source that it wouldnt work, might be same micro usb plug, but different wiring, or something to that effect. If the solution you mentioin has been proven to work, thast good enough for me.

Thanks.

Re: Audio Adapter?

After reading a lot of forums I found a solution that needs no soldering or cutting. I used two items purchased on ebay.

1. The micro USB to standard Host USB cable ($8") mentioned in this forum: http://www.wmexperts.com/treo-800w-usb-host-port-works

2. The Syba USB to 3.5mm Audio Adapter / USB Sound Card # SD-CM-UAUD, USB to 3.5mm stereo headset adapter ($9-$13) mentioned in this forum:
http://discussion.treocentral.com/treo-800w/178307-usb-3-5mm-adapter-works.html

Plug in and presto, you have a stereo headset jack plus microphone jack! Enjoy!

Bonus: The micro USB to standard Host USB cable works with other USB devices. I use it with my external USB hard drive, gaming USB headset and flash memory card reader.

There is also a micro USB splitter or "Y" cable available that you could also add that would allow external power to charge while listening.

Warning: Do not purchase the cheaper ($2) hong kong USB audio sound adaptors because they draw more than 100ma current and the audio will have a loud "crackle". If you don't believe me you can buy the cheap one from me that I tried. Works fine plugged in the desktop but no go with the 800w.
