I'm betting the 800w will NEVER get 6.5, officially or unofficially.

I'm wouldn't switch just for 6.5. If I was going to switch it would be for the hardware and the ability to customize the device to no end. I think I'll probably hold out for the Pre though. I love the easy one handed use of front facing keyboard too much, especially the sliding one on the Pre.

Definitely wait for the Pre. I have owned all Palm WM devices and I love them, but the features of the Pre are far too many to resist.

A small glimmer of hope!

Don't toss hope to the wind. The #1 requirement for WM 6.5 is that the device have a Windows hardkey start button. The 800w has that and so does the Treo Pro. So there is a chance, although slimmer for the 800w than Pro, that there may be an upgrade to WM 6.5. The big question is, if there was an upgrade, how well would it run on devices made for WM 6.1? And the 800w was originally made for WM 6.0.

Look at it this way, you guys have a better shot than we who have a Touch Pro that has no Windows hard key ;) .

Someone mentioned that they said no currently available devices will have or get WM 6.5. Oh well...

+ 1 on the "Dont hold your breath"

Remember the 700wx on got 6.0 after some folks made it happen on these boards (and treocentral).

Palm won't give nothing away.

I ran away from the 800w fast when I realized that I wasn't having the fun I had with my Vogue or my TP...

And what pray tell is so amazing about WM6.5 that would make one want it so bad anyways? Besides being the latest from MS, it is essentially a UI update with a newer version of IE6 (the current version is god awful). The "Honeycomb" is not exactly breathtaking innovation. All of this basically means one thing: 3rd party developers will continue to do it better.

At least WM6.1 brought some useful functionality to the OS/Exchange (search server, email shortcuts, better battery life, better security, MSCMDM, etc.), but so far WM6.5 is too little and way too late (end of 2009?).

Don't get me wrong, I dig WM but boy...MS has to get their act in gear.
