Considering the 800w...

I currently have a PPC-6700 and was wondering what peoples thoughts were on this device. I was considering the 6800, but there is more RAM on this baby, so me being a big fan of the 6700, would I like this device or hate it? I really want the RAM, but is it worth sacrificing the greatness of my 6700? You guys don't understand how much my 6700 means to me...we've been through a lot together, but i want to play my super nintendo ROMs smoothly. (yes, i have the original game packs)

I've owned a PPC-6700 and a PPC-6800, and I wonder every single day how I ever withstood using such horrible devices now that I upgraded to the 800w. There is no comparison on any front, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, the 800w isn't earth shattering or game-changing by any means, and it isn't going to make your wildest dreams come true. But it's an all-around excellent phone and it improves upon every aspect of the 6700 and 6800s with the possible exception of battery life (although mine suits me well for now).

All this being said, there was no reason for you to post this on here; there's a mountain of threads comparing the 6700 to the 6800 to the 800w.

It's a great device, the only problem is BATTERY. The battery life stinks on the device, but you can get by it, by getting an extra battery (FREE) from a Sprint corporate store. Also you can buy cheap $10 cigarette chargers from Walmart, that work well. Other than that, I can't find anything else wrong with it. It's got allot of RAM. I came from a Treo 700wx and I had to limit what apps I could install. I also had to store some apps on a 4Gb SD card. With the 800w, all the apps are installed on the device. I'm even wondering what other app I can install, since I still have allot of available space left. I also love the built in Wi-fi and GPS (assisted).

How can you get a free battery from Sprint and does it come with an external charger?

Just go to a Sprint corporate store and complain about the battery life. Say that it basically doesn't last you the whole day. Make sure you tell them that you already turned off bluetooth and hardly even use the internet. Then request for another battery. They will give you one. If they say, they don't have a battery for it, since it's new, just tell them it's the same battery the Treo Centro uses.

The 800w comes with a wall charger and a USB sync cable/charger. There are chargers that will charge the battery only from Seidio. You can also buy a $10 car charger from Walmart that works well.

I just did that at my local sprint store told me that they couldn't do that, since it would be pulling out a battery from the sales floor, but they could sell me one for half the price if i really wanted it. Damn them. Oh well i guess ill have to email ecare and see what happens

You dont tell the rep you want a free battery because the phone was designed to use one that doesnt last as long as you would like it too. You tell the rep(over the phone) that you called customer care and explained that your battery is heating up extremly on charge, and is burning out very quickly, and that the care representitive told you to call a sprint store and arrange them to give you one when you walk in per your insurance policy, and waalaa the store rep will check for the battery if not hell track down another store that has one.

Thats how I got mine :=)

Nice phone. In the last couple years I have had an 8125, Blackjack, Blackjack2, and a Moto Q global. I just bought an 800w this last weekend and so far I am with the exception of battery life really happy with it. The speed is great. GPS locks on fast. Display is on par with the Moto Q. Touchsreen is a nice addition allowing me to control a windows server in a pinch. Size is a bit large - I would have expected a bigger battery with a device this size - which by the way is really close to a Tilt(I know because I had to flash one today and held them side by side).

I was really close to getting a Diamond but after much debate the lack of a keyboard (and delays on the Diamonds part) is what tipped the scales in favor of the Treo.

Overall 9 out of 10.

unfortunately i will be giving up my treo 800... i was hoping to exchange it for the diamond and then the pro to see which one i liked best however my time is running out... :(. i really enjoyed the treo a lot and compared to the mogul ran smoothly but its too early for its square screen and mix of ported palm software and windows based software. creates a lot of software incompatibilities for me.
