What's the best way to wake up phone without disturbing current action?

This may be a simple answer but I haven't found it yet. Say I'm in the middle of doing something on my 800w, like an FTP file transfer or checking email, etc. After so many seconds, the screen dims. It seems like no matter what key I use to wake the phone up, it stops the process that had been going on.

Is there a certain key to hit to bring the screen back on without interrupting whatever process is taking place?

Thanks!

I asked the same question on another couple of forums one of which is very, very active and received no answer. I hope you have better luck than I did as I can't figure out what to push that doesn't do something on at least one screen. I was hoping to avoid having to experiment with so many different options.

Hello again everyone.

So I had this same issue...I was trying to limit the startup programs on the 800w because of my terrible experience with the Mogul's RAM. But I've come to realize that this phone runs like a champ and you don't have to worry about RAM. So the solution would be AE Button Plus and then you can map whichever key you want to the LCD on/off. My biggest issue with the LCD was when you were in a call I could not turn it off without hanging up. I don't like waiting for it to time out.
So here's the link to AE Button. http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php and I just linked the LCD to the calendar button. But if you don't want to lose any hard keys you can even use AE to do double or triple taps. So you could have a single tap for LCD then a double tap for the calendar.
Good luck!
Bam

Just hit any which way of the 5 way navigator.

That's probably the best option from what I can tell. That action still moves the cursor on the screen.

On the Centro, all you had to do was hit the power button to wake the screen up. You can do that with the Treo but it automatically takes you to the today screen instead of whatever app you had open.

I was looking for a way to just hit a button to turn the screen back on without performing any other type of action.

It still does something on the screen. We're looking for a button that when pushed all it does is turn the screen back on. Apparently it doesn't exist without aquiring an additional program or someone would've found it by now and be willing to share.

One thing I've found which seems to work is to use the stylus to tap on the top toolbar, in an area where there are no icons, such as the top right corner.

I believe the side button will also work if you just tap it quickly. If you hold it in too long, you'll get the notes app to load.

I don't have this issue let me ask are any of you using the button lock/Keyguard? If you have the Keyguard set to lock the device as soon as the power goes off when you turn on the device what ever you were doing is still on the screen you just tap center button on the d-pad to unlock. To set the Keyguard go to Start/Settings/Keyguard/Auto-Keyguard chose When power is turned off. Hope that helps

Yes, I have mine setup that way. The problem is, before the phone actually powers down and locks, the screen itself dims twice. The first dim you can still see everything, the second dim is almost completely black. It's during this time (before the lock) that I want to turn the screen back on and just about every button performs an action (and screws up what you had displayed) while turning the screen back on.

The side button works if you press it quick and don't have it mapped to an app with a "quick press."

Hope that's not too confusing and thanks for your reply.
