Re: Got phone as modem to work
got it to work!
1. used PHM registry editor and deleted IcsHelper.dll 2. Took out the battery and put it back it. 3. connected to internet via PIE 4. closed PIE 5. opened Internet Sharing 6. plugged in USB cable 7. pressed connect 8. and it worked!! NOW does anyone know if this is considered PAM?, cuz i have the 10 dollar standard power vision internet and im not supposed to use PAM lol |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
An easier method might just be to spend the money needed for an application similar to PDANet. I just installed it and it worked immediately without a hitch.

Re: Got phone as modem to work
Does Unlimited Data under Sero cover PAM????

Re: Got phone as modem to work
1) Registry Editor...
2) HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing 3) Delete this string: Extension - IcsHelper.dll 4) Wait 5 minutes and grab a Coke 5) Soft-Reset 6) Establish internet connection (open Internet Explorer etc) 7) Plug in USB cable to computer and phone  Start -> Programs -> Internet sharing -> Connect I only see "Settings" and "Status" as the 2 folders under Internet Sharing. Under settings, there is forcecell connection and MaxCMconnectretries" and under Status, there is "enabled" Which file do I edit? I don't see the IcsHelper |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
What "file" are you talking about? Registry editor doesn't delete files...and there's no mention of deleting files anywhere.

Re: Got phone as modem to work
is there a way to block incoming calls to voicemail while the phone is set up for PAM?? I can make outgoing calls fine, but if I receive an incoming call it automatically disconnects me and have to soft reset :disgust::disgust::scratch:
text msg'ing doesn't D/C me though. thanks |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
works like a charm! thank you! this was the only reason I really need a phone, and I had to switch back to my vogue to get online to test this, now both my phones go online for now! thanks it does work well, and I have a unlimited vision pack and have used my vogue like this for 6 months, and sprint has never said a thing! thank you!

Kudos for this. I've been trying it for a week. It works fine.

Re: Got phone as modem to work
BTW I just got my Sprint bill and there doesn't seem to be any extra billing for this. :woot:

Re: Got phone as modem to work
I had a HTC Mogul for 3 weeks. WM 6.0 and internet sharing working with a simply everything plan for $99. Download speed was average 1100kbps!! That's faster than my home DSL!
However the mogul being a piece of crap (freeze ups, slide keyboard, crap phone application) I took it back and got the 800w. That night I was on the phone w/sprint for two hours arguing. Phone as modem will not work with WM 6.1! Sprint tells me it's a "glitch" in thier system and they will have it fixed soon. I persisted in claiming they sold me a phone they cannot support. The only way they they could make it work was put me on a straight minute plan (900 max), a $35 data plan, AND a $15 unlimited text plan. Prob is I have two other phones that shared minutes, one has unlimited text also. I cannot share minutes with my plan now. Had to get a seperate plan for the other two phones. Smallest plan is 700 minutes shared, plus $15 unlimited txt on one of them. WTF.....my monthly bill just about doubled so I can use phone as modem!! If you are claiming I can edit this registry and go back to my old plan then I'm on it! Normally I would not be concerned about phone as modem so much as it would be occasional use at best. However with my DSL lines being out for another two weeks I use it all night long - usually stays on after I fall asleep (oops)! Also while the mogul logged in at 1100kbps this 800w only seems to get 750kbps at best - even using wi-fi at starbucks it's pretty slow. My home DSL is only 750kbps so whatever I guess, just thought I would mention the speed difference between the phones. To summarize: I can do a registry edit on my 800w and then use phone as modem on a simply everything plan right? If that's the case then please advise on registry editors as I'm a complete PPC virgin! Worst case is a true hard reset puts the phone back to "out of the box" state right? |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
Careful. Even if you're on the Simply Everything Plan you're still bound by the 5GB monthly limit. Not sure what you're doing overnight but if it's downloading then you might want to keep an eye on that.
I used PHM RegEdit which is free: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/ Looks like crap on the 800w but it gets the job done. You can go and pay for Resco Registry Editor but why pay if this one's free ;-) |

I'm not really big into downloading things. Usually checking email, bills, etc. I don't have my computer set to automatically update/download things so it should be idle when I fall asleep lol. Just usually happens that way - computers bore me so much :) |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
Thanks it works great!!!!
|
Re: Got phone as modem to work
Actually the Simply Everything Plan does not have a limit on data. If you purchase there Data Plan from a Broadband Modem they will limit to 5 gig.

Re: Got phone as modem to work
You got a serial for rescoe?

Re: Got phone as modem to work
He Guys! What's Up Is It Limited To 5gb For The Se Plan Or Unlimited I Need To Be Sure. Im Considering Watching On Line Movies, Not Sure How Much That's Gonna Eat Up. But For Some Reason My Ics Stpped Working Just Like That. It Worked Fine. My Question Is Do I Need A Activesync Connection To Have It Working Properly Becuz Before My Pc Didn't See My Ppc When Plugged In Bit The Ics Worked Great. Then All The Sudden Activesync Finally Worked On My Pc That's When My Connection Was Lost. I Removed Extension Already. Any Other Suggestion? Hard Reset?
never mind somehow it worked by itself. the activsync is not syncing again oh well as long as I got internet woohoo! |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
if you are having a problem connecting using ICS and activesync is discovering your phone, goto activesync settings and disable USB connections. this will almost guarantee no problems with tethering.

http://enscreenshots.softonic.com/s2...sync4_5_s4.jpg
Go to Activesync>File>Connection Settings and put a check in the box that says Allow USB connections. Now after pressig ok at the bottom activesync should disconnect and you should be able to use the Internet Sharing on the phone. Im not sure why this guy has the box checked allow connections to the following but mine is not checked and i get average 450-600Kb |

Re: Got phone as modem to work
I have a pc that does NOT have activesync. Can I tether to the 800w?
in case anyone is wondering why I have not activesync on the pc, it is bc activesync can only sync two computers, and I have three computers. I wish to try tether to the pc that does NOT have the activesync installed |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
ActiveSync shouldn't be required for tethering. The computer should simply recognize the phone as a modem once you have it in Internet Connection Share mode.

cool.. after Del the reg key this worked for me. i'll be testing this on the road this weekend. thank you. |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
Those of you running Sprint ROMs should navigate to the following registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing" and delete the string value named "Extension". This will allow you to connect to the Internet via the "Internet Sharing" app without the dreaded error 67/authentication errors.
WORKED FOR ME! |

Re: Got phone as modem to work
Its been asked, but never answered. PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER ME
I did a hack to be able to do internet sharing on my 800w; since the internet is shared won’t Sprint not be able to tell I am tethering? Especially now there are browsers which can render sites like youtube or other sites which can only be viewed on pc. thanks ps capitals used fot attention not be rude :) |
Re: Got phone as modem to work
I was wondering the exact same thing. but skyfire allows you to view real youtube.
