Custom PRL
Hi,
I have just moved to Tallahassee FL and in my Apt. I get a very poor Sprint coverage. I tried to force my phone to roaming (Alltel) but results are pretty similar. My wife has Verizon and she gets great good signal inside the Apt. I know there is a way to make a custom PRL where I can move the verizon in priority level above Alltel. I tried to extract the PRL from my 700wx using Bitpim but for some reason it does not recognize my phone. I have set my phone to connect as modem using "modem link" in program menu and also tried using "USB switch" again in program menu. I tried nearly all COM ports but nothing. So my question is how should I extract my PRL from the phone and how should I edit my PRL to move the verizon priority (which is right now below Alltel at number 3 in this area). ~TIA DC |
I really have no idea, I don't even think it's possible on the 700w/wx since (as far as I know/have heard/read) no manual way to update the PRL has been discovered for the Treo (I know it is possible for other devices).

On my Samsung SCH i730 I was able to connect it to Bitpim and extract the PRL file so I thought it should be pretty much same on 700wx but I guess not :(

this would help me alot if we could make a custom PRL. verizon is good in my house but sprint is not as good.

I know this can be done.....(where are all the modders???)
|
There aren't really any 'modders' per se for the 700w/wx thanks to Palm never releasing an update. Because of that no custom ROMs have been created... we don't even have the ## codes to change our slot cycle (as with the 6700), and I believe there's also a ## code needed to manually update PRL files. |
I found the way to do it. This cannot be accomplished using the USB data cable which comes with the device. You need to have a serial cable which can be purchased at http://www.pcables.com/cat1.html ($65+S&H ) or it can be home made by following these instructions at http://www.shadowmite.com/650serial.html :D I don't have much knowledge about putting cables together (soldering and all that stuff) and don't want to brick my phone if I mess up something. So if someone ready to take chances and assemble this serial cable I would be willing to pay him/her :) . Any takers?
