Treo 700wx quality

Hello there, is the 700wx good quality? There's a person that's willing to trade his 700wx for my Mogul. I just want to make sure that the 700wx isn't plagued with problems, etc... What would be better? The 700wx? or the 700p? Or the 755p?

The 700wx is great. It's a stable phone and the keyboard is great.

The 800w just came out today.

Re: Treo 700wx quality

I've had my 700WX for nearly a year and have few complaints about it. My biggest one has little to do with the phone and more to do w/ Vista and WMDC. The 700WX's greatest asset is it's memory 128MB vs 64 on most other PPC's. There's also no shortage of 3rd party apps that really help customize things. With a little work, you can operate your device one handed.

As for the 700P or 755P, these use the Palm OS, not WM and therefore are not PPC's. Additionally, unlike WM based devices which allow multi tasking, Palm OS devices do not allow this.

Hope this helps your decision.

What is it that you dislike about the 700wx?

Re: Treo 700wx quality

I suppose other than the previously mentioned WMDC/Vista issue which could plague any PPC, the small screen size (240 X 240) is my only other dislike.

Only complaint for me is the screen size. Other than that it's a total work-horse!

Any hardware defects that I should be aware of? I'm swapping it as-is so I would like to know these things ahead of time.

Re: Treo 700wx quality

Unless there's some pre-existing damage, you should have no problems with the hardware.

I had a 700w/x before my 6800 and I have to tell you I would never go back.
  • The phone froze all the time, I had to do several soft resets throughout the day. It was a big pain in the ***. I used Cody threaded for SMS and even that program would cause the phone to crash.
  • Every now and again, the phone wouldn't tell me who was calling. The caller id would show up blank.
  • If I used the wired headset, it would get stuck in headset mode and the only way to take or make calls was to use the headset. I hate bluetooth because of the static and background noise, so I would use the wired headset. It would come out of headset mode on its own. Even a soft reset couldn't bring it back.
Alltel had to replace my phone about 6 times over the course of a year! That is why Alltel finally bent over and swapped me with a 6800 and I've never been happier!

Hope I've answered your question.

i also had a 700wx before the 6800 and 6900 and there really wasnt any complaint i had except for screen size. as far as hardware issues i saw far less 7000wx than i did the Palm Version.

I love my 700wx. I had to send in my mogul for screen repair since I had the mysterious white spots that many people have complained about, so I switched to the 700wx for now(which is my backup until i get the mogul back). The phone is incredible. Stable and fast with plenty of RAM. Never had any issues with the phones hardware. I have dropped it at least 3 times from ear level onto concrete and it's still a champ. I did have a weird problem with Ringtones mysteriously disappearing and Alarms going off at 10am everyday even when not set! But it was probably something I did wrong. Anyway, I agree with everyone about the screen size/quality. I must say the treo screen is WAY brighter and easier to see in direct sunlight. REMEMBER!!! The mogul has WIFI and the Treo does not! The keyboard is also a lot smaller but still very easy to use (just not as easy as the mogul's).

Long story short: if you don't care about wifi, screen size and keyboard size... there is nothing that should stop you from switching to the 700wx.
avoid the palm OS that comes with the other palm phones for reasons already listed by other users. the treo also comes stock with WM5 but WM6 is easy to flash onto the phone.

Don't get the Sprint 700wx. I had it and never regreted upgrading to the Sprint Touch. Does not have Rev A speed, only EVDO. Because of the 240x240 small screen it's incompatible with many 3rd pary appications out there. Good luck on finding games and apps that you like to work on this. This thing doesn't have GPS.

Too summarize it, the treo 700wx is old technology compare to the Mogul and Touch. There's so much more you can do with the Mogul and Touch. With the new Rom updates the Mogul and Touch have been very stable.

Not from what I have experienced for two months with the Mogul. I thought I loved it at first, but when it came down to the productivity and stability. It wasn't going to cut it. I read up on the 700p, 755p and the 700wx. Obviously the 700wx was my last choice, due to the bad experience with the Mogul. Alas, I traded in my Mogul for a 700wx. Never would regret it. The 700wx is much, much more stable than the Mogul's Windows Mobile 6 Professional. I have Mobile 6 Professional on my 700wx and it runs it much faster, it's much more responsive, and much more stable.

As for the small screen problem-- I don't play games on my Treo. I work on it. No 3rd party apps for me except for SEVEN Mobile Messaging, Google Maps, PDAnet. PHM RegEdit and Palm Threaded SMS. So the 240x240 screen does me plenty. Though a 320x320 screen would be nice, to see more in a screen, but the 240x240, like I said, is plenty enough.

Last time I checked, my Mogul has the latest ROM available from Sprint. I would reset my phone at least once every other day just to clear up the RAM. This thing has so much RAM to offer, it's so much faster-- I don't see where you're coming from! The GPS issue-- yes, the GPS was a nice feature on the Mogul, but I don't use it often. I do drive, but I don't believe in using your phone while driving (Yes, I'm like that, and yes, it's normal).

It's old technology, but it works. Much like Palm's OS Garnet. It's quickly becoming an ancient relic more than a mobile revolution, but it has proved itself much more stable over the years with the little patches here and there, they have perfected the Palm OS 5.4.

I know I kinda attacked you on that, and I'm sorry. I'm just so happy that my ex-Mogul is out of my view, and the power of the Treo 700wx is in the Palm of my hands.
