hi i a new to this but have seen on download squad that one of ppcgeeks memebers helmi_c has managed to get Windows Mobile 6 running on a 6700 is this true? i can't seem to find the link to it anywhere

That might be. But you're in the wrong forum. This one's for the Treo 700wx. Look for the HTC Apache forum.

Let's just say that one of the carriers updates the 700wx to WM6, do you think that the other carriers users could benefit? Are the Palm ROM's hackable?

Well the Verizon update was hacked up to be usable by Sprint users brave enough to try it (me included) so in theory the answer would be yes.

the problem with usinb sprint rom in verizon is that sprint rom uses *.nbh *.nb0 while verizon uses *.ruu

why the difference?

so what the bottom line is, the treo 700wx cannot in no way have mobile 6? why the hell not? is it the carrier or the phone makers itself that wont allow an upgrade such as this?
on the windows mobile home page, theres a picture of a treo 700 in someones hand thats advertising wm6 and explains all the new features, but of course theres no download option. hard ot imagine if they show it like that you would think its avail. but i guess not.

No, it's not that it can't. It's that the rom is locked to the extent that users cannot unlock it to replace it. The htc rom is such that they either don't care, or didn't do much work to lock the rom, so you can install your own. Without the software to load a new rom onto the 700, there is no way to do it. Palm could make a wm6 image if they wanted. But that's the key - if they wanted ;)
