700wx, using gps. Need help, please.
Do I have to use an external gps receiver to use a turn by turn direction software?
I was under the impression that the 700wx was "gps enabled". Also, I have found there are 2 types of gps add-ons. One slides into the memory card slot, and looks like an antenna, while the other uses bluetooth and has a memory card for maps. I know the latter can be used for turn by turn driving instructions with voice, but can't find much info on the one like an antenna. I downloaded a program called "yahoo go 2.0" which has a lot of features, like maps and turn by turn, but when I try to connect to the gps feature, it says it can't find it. Any input is appreciated, I have been searching for info to no avail. |
you need to get a Bluetooth Gps recevier in order for it to work. I have one to work with my tom tom 6 in my 700wx. the Model i have is a celllink btg-7000 works great.

The Treo 700wx is AGPS capable, which means it uses cell towers to triangulate your position.
For true pinpoint location with GPS, you do need a separate GPS reciever, like the one sold with Microsoft Street & Trips. |
I just got an iBlue 737 GPS bluetooth receiver. It's really nice, picks up GPS signal quick, and works very well with Microsoft LiveSearch and TomTom Navigator 6.
I'd highly recommend it. Plus, it's pretty small, so it easily fits wherever you want to put it. I got the recommendation for that unit myself on this post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=2961 Check it out for some other info, and some other good suggestions out there. |
