My review:

OK, in my short, short tests I have found a few things, not so much good however.

--Press and hold the multi-function button on bluetooth headset: Initiates VC....GOOD!

--You cannot use bluetooth devices' microphone or ear speaker. It still uses the phones' mic and speaker. I messed with the settings a little also, nothing.

--VC now anounces messages. A plus, not a BIG deal for me.

In conclusion, if you use a BT earpiece in the car, and the phone is very close to you, it will be ok. You can call anyone in your contacts without touching the phone. BUT, the phone needs to be near you so you can talk into the mic and listen to the confirmation questions. Voice recognition is good, it hasn't screwed up yet. I've tried 8-10 times. Not worth it in my opinion, as the treo bt stack doesn't support talking into the earpiece, listening through the earpiece, etc. I'm very disappointed, but it will be great on other voice-dialing-capable phones.

In that case I'll wait for a REAL MODERATOR to move it! :P

yes and no. specifically 700w/wx users are interested in dialing over BT, which every other WM5 device does, so this was addressing that specifically.

patmannyc's review will cause hella confusion if people don't understand the 700w/wx issue.

though someone can post a general announcement if they want to in the ppc software section.

Certs 11-16-2006 12:53 PM

Good point, I edited my post to clarify, based on the confusion over at treocentral as well. If it were a free upgrade it would be a no-brainer, we'll see if Palm changes the stack in their next update.

RIIIIIIIIIGHT!

pzztgotbagz 11-16-2006 10:30 PM

So does this mean you can hear the callers name over ur bt headset when u get a call or is it still the generic tone you hear..............?

Certs 11-17-2006 11:05 PM

You will NOT hear them. like I said, the bluetooth on this phone prevents most of the functions, therefore if you own a 700w/wx I do not recommend buying it. Not worth the 40 bucks.

We'll see if the firmware update that gets released (one day) upgrades the BT stack, but it is not likely.

pzztgotbagz 11-17-2006 11:18 PM

so are u saying you cant hear any notifications over bt???? or just not the callers name???? thanks...

Pibe38 11-18-2006 02:52 AM

I believe that with the wx any notification will be heard on the headset as a beep, or whatever your headset does. Due to the wx no being set up for BT stacking no voice notification (ring tones, voice command, etc) can be heard on the headset.

Anyone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

pzztgotbagz 11-18-2006 10:58 AM

i wonder why u cant extract the bt stack from the 750 like u can everything else

Pibe38 11-18-2006 01:03 PM

I think they are working on it... I saw a couple of threads on XDA about it.

http://www.trianglepowers.com/ppc6700/Default.aspx Don't know if it will work on 700w/wx but if you get the audio gateway program, turn it on it should route your caller ID announcement to your bluetooth headset. You can also listen to your music thru BT. I listen to sirius all the time that way on my ppc-6700. Just thought I would suggest it for the 700w/wx users. There are a lot of these gateway audio programs around. I don't know if wideawake has any of them posted. Hope it works !!

Pibe38 11-18-2006 01:18 PM

I think those programs won't work on the WX due to not having A2DP. I don't know much about BT though...

Treo_newb 11-19-2006 06:34 PM

Not wx friendly

Certs 11-20-2006 03:33 AM

Take it from me, because now, after VC 1.6, I can officially say that I have tried EVERYTHING with this phone. Voice dial through bluetooth is NOT HAPPENING on this phone unless the stack can be changed. I personally think it is also hardware related, because ZERO other WM phones have this issue. I hope I'm wrong but it doesn't appear so at this time. I have tried cyberon, bttoggle, vc, and some hack that was used on the 6700 pre-update. A2DP has nothing to do with it either, people with the i730 and 6700 have had success w/vc, and they do not have A2DP either...

ken987 12-09-2006 04:11 PM

Handango is having a sale on this but I wanted to bump this as I don't think its worth the money if the BT part is still not working. I like that you can hit the button on your ear now to start but is that the only benefit still? No mic or sound using the earpiece? Still all phone based once the process is started?

Caller ID Announements working thru BT Headset

I'm not up to date on the Treo 700w, but if it is running WM 5.0 a program I wrote will transfer the Caller Announcement to your headset.

Check out the post here:

Enjoy!

Bad Sector 12-12-2006 10:38 PM

Sorry, but it seems my program is not working with the Treo :( ... I'm in the process of trying to figure it out.

Hopefully I will be able to make another break through and get it working on the Treo.. but right now it is very different than the problem we was having on the 6700.

wouldya 01-22-2007 04:22 PM

yeah i installed it and im not too thrilled with it. If i uninstall it from the add/remove programs ... will the wx revert back to the original version, or will everything be removed, leaving me without voice command???
