Speaker sounding off

Today my Pre started making a weird sound from the speaker. The phone had been sitting on a table while I took a nap. I awoke to this sound, kinda like mic feedback. Totally unresponsive. I had to pull the battery to make it stop. After I started it back up, everything seems to work just fine. Any ideas?
