Tether with Pre
Simple. How can I tether with the palm pre?
|
Re: Tether with Pre
A simple search would have told you that tethering is a feature that was not included with the Pre for whatever reason, but I'll spare you the lecture on searching as I'm sure I've done the same at some point.
If you are OK with rooting your Pre, "there's a homebrew app for that": http://forums.precentral.net/homebre...-required.html |
Re: Tether with Pre
and you can do it without rooting now ;)

Re: Tether with Pre
1. follow this guide: http://predev.wikidot.com/using-novaproxy steps 1-14
now you are at a command prompt for your pre (root access) 2. now go here: http://forums.precentral.net/homebre...-required.html and scroll down to the "Instructions (1.2.1)" section and follow those steps. 3. At this point I went back to the developer app and turned developer mode off (Pre reboots) and disconnected from USB. Now in the Application Launcer open "My Tether" 4. Click on Services and turn USBNet on, Pre reboots. Open My Tether > Services > turn DHCP on 5. Turn off Wi-Fi on the PRE if it is on. Click USB and turn USB Tethering On 6. Plug usb cable in, select charge only 7. to install the driver for windows - go back to the site in step 2 and follow the steps for "USBNet" Now you have tether access!! Once you have done all this, all you need to do is use "My Tether" to enable or disable tethering as needed. |
Re: Tether with Pre
Question...if you only want to use WiFi you do not have to do the USBNet?
|
Re: Tether with Pre
Correct: USBNet should not need to be enabled if you use bluetooth or wifi to share.
If you are going to share over wi-fi, you will need to disable wifi from the menu at the top of the Pre, then open My Tether and enable wifi tethering. Also be aware that in this version (1.2.1) if you use wi-fi to share and the Pre goes to sleep (screen shuts off) it will turn off the wi-fi connection. The work around is to have your pre connected to the charger or a USB port (charge mode) which will keep wi-fi on even if the screen is off. In the next release this is going to be fixed. |
