Useful Tips and Shortcuts

I copied this from user buyrihn over at TreoCentral:
  1. When typing, just type "u", then a space or a period or comma, and the Pre will auto-correct it to "you".
  2. If you're in a text field and the Pre auto-caps the first letter and you don't want it to be capitalized, press the delete key once, and it'll change it to lowercase without having to type the letter again.
  3. In card mode, if you press and hold on a card, it'll zoom out to a smaller view which makes it easier to see multiple cards! You can also do this by tapping anywhere on the wallpaper.
  4. You can change your launcher Apps by holding the App in the launcher bar and then dragging it up. Then you can add by doing the opposite, Hold the icon of the App you want in the launcher and pull down into the launcher
  5. If your display turns off while the keyboard is open, you can press the spacebar instead of the power button to turn it back on
  6. When typing, you can type "thru", and it will auto-correct it to "through"
  7. When typing, if you want to move the cursor, hold down the orange button and you can "slide" the cursor around
  8. Orange + Sym + R seems to soft reset the phone.
  9. After tapping a notification, you can return it to icon form by swiping down on it
  10. You can maximize a shrunken card by swiping down below the card towards the gesture area.
  11. Enter "t" for a Timed Pause in a dial string, and enter "p" for a Hard Pause in a dial string. Touch the remainder of the dial string following the word "Dial" on the screen to trigger the next set of digits to dial.
  12. Orange + sym and tap on link opens a new card when browsing online
  13. Hold the shift button down and press the back key to delete whole words at a time.
  14. You can get rid of the Alarm icon in the notification bar by restarting the phone after setting the alarm.
  15. If your keyboard is slid out, you can take a picture with the camera by pressing the spacebar
  16. Take a screenshot by pressing Orange + Shift + P. The new pic will be in your photos, under "screenshots"
  17. You can set the weather to display on your calendar (if it's sync'd with google calendar) by going to the Settings on http://calendar.google.com entering your zip code and setting the "Display weather on calendar" option.
  18. You can remove installed (downloaded) apps from the launcher by opening the launcher, going to the Launcher options, select List Apps then click on the desired app and click delete OR by holding down the orange button and tapping the app you want to delete.
Let's see some more!

when the browser is in landscape mode, you can scroll up and down using the gesture area

under screen&lock, you can turn on "switch applications" under advanced gestures and you can switch between open applications in full card mode. so you don't have to minimize to card view, you can just swipe back and forth using a full swipe in the gesture area. with advanced gestures on, back swipes are a right to left motion either stopping at the button or starting from the button. the same thing with scrolling in the browser in landscape mode.

I also noticed that when you turn off the GPS, it also saves a bit of battery juice.

Click on Messaging>Buddies. You will see either Available, Busy, or Offline. If you click in the button in front of the area you will see the options pop up.

I agree. I love the palm Pre and I love ppcgeeks forums.... but there isn't a lot of information discussed here like in some of the other forum. What I mean is there is usually always new information whenever I log off and log back off, But not here. it could be days before I log back on, and it's basically the same stuff on here.

That's because there's not much going on in Palm Pre land yet. Keep an eye on the SDK thread.

The other Pre forums you see with pages and pages of stuff is just the same repetitive crap about how somebody's local Sprint store is sold out of phones or somebody has a wobbly slider. Most of those forums are, for the most part, unmoderated and full of noob wanky-ness.

I'm sure things will pick up here once the development begins to pick up.

Unfortunately it's not possible at the moment. What I did was transfer files to my computer for my previous device and then copied them to my Pre. Same with my daughter's.

Re: Useful Tips and Shortcuts

I had my contacts and calendar sync'ed to Google. Works like a charm to get that info up to your phone.

And then yes, you can transfer files between new phone and old phone via your pc.

Re: Useful Tips and Shortcuts

I need to connect to Verizon towers and can find out where to set my wifes Pre to stay on ROAM.
Im setting the pref in Phone and changing the network setting to Voice to Auto not Sprint Only. Ive also enabled data roam too. I then update the network setting and it comes back fine, but it looks like it still see the Sprint network and connects to that.
I have a HTC Touch Pro and have it set to use Verizon and my phone works much better then my wifes, is there something ive missed ?
BTW, i have Updated my PRL on my wifes phone but how can i tell it to use Verizons towers?

Seawing
