How much will the Pre cost me?

So I called last week before the launch and asked a sprint store if I was eligible for an upgrade.. she asked how long I'd had the phone and I said for almost a year. She said probably not unless I was a premiere account holder.. she put me on hold and came back a minute later and told me it looks like I was a premiere account holder and told me I would get the upgrade but it would be July 1st. I didn't think of asking her how much I would pay for the Pre.. was just assuming the 199 after rebate. But I've read others getting smaller discounts from a 1 year upgrade... is this different than a premiere account?

Premiere account doesn't mean anything except that they will give you an early upgrade without you having to raise a fuss to get it. My account is "premiere" as well.

It's just a way they make you feel special without having to really do anything special for you.

The discount that they give you for extending your contract for 1 year is less than the discount for extending it for 2 years. The 199 after rebate cost that you are seeing is the cost after 2 year upgrade regardless of whether they call your account premiere or not.

Not true as a premiere customer you are entitled to your 2 year upgrade pricing every year instead of every 2 years.

If you call and complain enough you can get that anyway. Trust me.

Ok . cool then.. I'm assuming I'll get it for 199 after rebate with a renewal of 2 years. Thanks for the Input!

One more question... I'd really like to get it before July 1st... think Sprint store or Sprint customer service would do it? Or would I be wasting my time... it's less than 3 weeks.. thats assuming any sprint store in my city have the Pre in stock....

You need to talk to customer care about that. If they notate on your account that they did offer it to you, and that you can do it in store, then any sprint corporate store should give it to you for what customer care offered. The answer that I got from customer care was that they would do this on all other phones, but not the Pre right now since it's too new and short in supply. Obviously demand for the Pre outweighs the supply. It doesn't give them as much incentive to give the discounts early on them.

If you talk to the "retentions" department over the phone and tell them you are going to drop your contract if they don't give you the early upgrade now, they will probably do it.

It takes a little smooth talking... don't be mean... just firm.

Well.. I tried today with no luck. Cs put me on hold and told me he was gonna talk to upgrades dept.(orsomething) .. came back and told me they couldnt do it. Seems stupid they can't do this even with less than 3 weeks till real upgrade time. Might have to try the "retentions" method... but I guess I could just wait the 3 weeks...

Yes... you weren't persistent enough.

1) The reps won't want to transfer you to retentions at first. You have to be firm.
2) Don't let the rep do the talking for you.

3 weeks is not long to wait if you don't mind to do it.

The 22 month discount gets you the same pricing as a new line. $150 is the general amount off per regular phone, Smart phones are usually $250 to $350 off.

Re: How much will the Pre cost me?

I emailed them about the price on purchase speciffically to my 1 year upgrade. This is what I was told and I quote. " The regular price for Pre is $549.99. However, after the instant saving of $250.00 and mail in rebate of $100.00 this phone will cost you for $199.99. Therefore, on the purchase of Pre, you will get an instant discount of $250.00 and then you need to fill the mail in rebate. Sincerely, Sam S. Sprint" So I am assuming it will cost 299 on hand before you do the mail in rebate.

thats what they told me on the phone first but when i asked them, "then i will get it at 200 after mail in rebate" they told me "no". that i would only get the 150 off upgrade. i need to call back

Re: How much will the Pre cost me?

One of the lines I upgraded to the pre was eligible for the 22 month upgrade. That line paid $299 in store for the pre with a mail in rebate of $100. So he got the same price as the second line I opened.

edit: ok. i called and get what u all said. only if i can find the phone now.

Re: How much will the Pre cost me?

lol so I just talked to customer service. Was told I should physically print out the emails I received to help me actually get the price I was told on the email. What a pain.

Re: How much will the Pre cost me?

Sprint stores have been giving 22 month renewal customers the same price as new customers on phones for a while now. Actually the 22 month customer saves $25 because they wont' try to charge you an activation fee. They charged me $25 on the line that I opened up brand new. At that point I didn't care because I had a pre on launch day and didn't want to argue.

Yeah... you don't want to argue it at the point they are holding your hard to find device... but you can always call later and they will remove superfluous fees usually. :)

Oh yeah anything the store messes up I get fixed later with customer care. The store messed up my EPRP plan and gave me a regular everything family plan. I called later and got that put back to my EPRP family plan.

Re: How much will the Pre cost me?

heh i was told over the phone thru the 800 number i would get the pre for $199 if i renewed to a new 2 yr contract, but if i kept my original contact date which expires on 6/17/2010 that i would only get $75 discount, when i went to get the pre the guy at the store had me sign the page which said no deposit, no charges today page and i signed and dated it, but when he left he brought back my page and had stapled on my receipt w hen i got back home i saw that it didnt look right so i lifted the receipts and there it said that i had signed a new 2 yrs contact but i had only gotten a $75 discount when i had been told if i signed a new contact i would get the phone for $199, so i called sprint on the 800 and talked to a supervisior and he said there was nothing he could do that i had my account original account expiring on 6/17/2010 that i could take the phone and wait until then but that as a premier member the dicount for 1 yr was only $75 off , thats ridiculous and he said anytime you get an upgrade to a new phone you automatically have to sign a new 2 yrs contract i am pissed that i was scammed you know that the guy at the store understood i was planning on keeping my original contract as i wanted it to expire that way i could get the new HTC touch pro 2 when it came out and i had sat there talking about what i was doing and that the 800 number knew my plans, but he still put me on a new 2 yr plan i am so pissed off.

You can return the phone within 30 days and go back to your original contract end date. 1 year discuont is only $75 off 22 month discount is the same discount as a new customer. To qualify for either of these you have to sign a new 2 year agreement. Anyone else telling you differently is misinformed.
