I have a pre and a Droid. I think the Droid is a thousand times better so I have to imagine the hero is as well. I liked the pre at first but cannot stand it now.

My wife and son had the Pre. She now has the Treo Pro, and he's looking at my Hero with envy. Too many hardware problems with the Pre IMO.

I went from a tp to hero, hero to moment, moment to pre. Love my PRE!

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

I have the Hero (somewhere in my house collecting dust) and I also was on the TO2 for a while until I gave the Pre a whack. I since have sold my TP2 and my hero hasn't been activated since 10-23. I love the Pre. It has the best games. We have a grand theft auto type game, doom, quake. The video quality is way better than the Pre. Palm has come out with over 12 uodates for the Pre while you are still waiting for the 2.1 update and the tp2 is still waiting for theits. Browsing is better on the Pre and faster than the Hero or Tp2. Apps are great, facebook, twitter Rss feeds and alot of other. Pre demolishes the Hero on any given sunday. Give it a whirl @ a store and you'll fall in love with the "swoosh". Even bought my girl a pixi as well.

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

it's simple. IMHO webOS wipes the floor with the Hero (note that I said webOS and not the Pre) Palm had a really bumpy launch since the Pre is plaiged with hardware issues, from cheap plastiky feel to things like screen blotches and speaker problems. It's supposed to be better with new builds but it really killed the buzz for Palm. Luckily my Pre has no such issues and I could not be happier. I had the Hero and it's a solid device but the CPU killed it's potential to be a real superphone. I got rid of it cuz of the lag (mostly browser and imput) and went back to the Pre which was night and day, It's not blazing fast but not pull-your-hair-out slow like the Hero can get. The screen looks so much better due to it being 32 million colors compared to 64k the Hero gets, browser is a joy to use, camera is 100000 times better (forget megapixels or autofocus, trust me they look waaay better) the pics are so crisp and vibrant due to superior lens that makes the 5mp of the Hero look like rubbish, we have games that only the iPhone can run besifes the Pre (Sims, Avatar, Assasins Creed, Lets Golf, Earthworm Jim, Grand Theft Auto (sorta) Guitar Hero etc. Honestly I made the right choice and toy will love it as well as long as you watch out for hardware issued and get you a solid model.

My son has a Hero; I have a Diamond & a Pre (wife also has Pre). I'm not getting rid of either the Pre or the Diamond.
At least until the SuperSonic comes to Sprint. Or a WM7 phone.
The Pre with the 1.4.1.1 update, a nice theme and a few patches (especially the CPU scaling- I'm using the 800Mhz) makes for an awesome device.

I'm going to side with the Pre. I actually run a pixi right now and i still prefer it to my android phone or my Windows 6.5 phone.

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

With the availability of the 800 patch for the pre it's hand's down Pre for me now. I still wish webos would appear on a larger version of the pixi with the pre's processor and wifi. I prefer the form of the pixi.

Keep in mind that Palm and WebOS has been dying, while android has been doing nothing but growing. I don't see how palm will even stay afload in the mobile market, much less competitive. The android marketplace is full of free games/apps, where it seems like nearly all of WebOS is paid apps. go to the store and play with it and see, but I would say stick with the Hero, root it, and have some fun with it

It is more than apps.... There are plenty of free apps... You just have to actually know what you are talking about to know where they are. ;)

The multitasking on the pre is unbeatable. Nothing holds a candle to it.

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

I disagree about all webos apps being "paid". Many useful apps are free. Also I don't play games on my palms so that's not an issue for me. Ditto to what Mom said about multi-tasking. Opinions are like anal orifices, everybody's got one and it's yours to use freely!

Yup. If anything is gonna keep me on the Pre when the Evo is release its gonna be the ability to multitask. I think I'm going to see how the SenseUI on top of Android is going to work.

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

let me put it this way...

i went from the touch pro to the Pre...

Pre to Hero...

back to the Pre...

Pre for touch Pro 2...

back to the Pre...

Pre to the Moment...

im currently looking for another Pre...

webOS is HANDS DOWN the best OS available now, the combination of a great browser, multitasking, email, games, sync etc. is second to none ( i say combination because a lot of devices excel at some things but sucks at others, but webOS is IMO great at everything it currently does) I keep wanting to try other devices that appeal to me due to the "grass is greener" symdrome, but i always come to realize that i miss webOS too much to stay with something else... now with the 800mhz patch it will run even faster circles around the Hero. Gonna be tough wanting to get the EVO... i wish that Palm would at least announce something new before the EVO hits

I agree with you 100% here. I wouldn't even consider the Evo if Palm would announce something new coming to Sprint. It would be nice to have a Palm Pre Plus Plus 4G.

10-4 on the "something new".

i wouldn't switch to a palm right now. i owned both the pre and pixi and the hero is tons better. palm is going out of business, they will be bought out soon enough. their market share is worthless.

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

I have to have the EVO. I love the Pre and I am sure I will miss the multi-tasking as it is on the Pre, but the EVO combines some of my most favorite hobbies into one package. Cellphone tech, Social Networking, and Photography.

It is like the EVO was made for me. LOL

I have to agree 110% with NinjaMom, I NEED the Evo LOL! I love my Pre, I don't use it often and haven't for a while, but I do love it. If it felt sturdier I would have used it much more, webOS is just awesome IMO, but the Evo has my <3 :p

These are some of the things I have been sending Palm trying to entice them to send me some kind of response to what their comback will be. So far nothing.

Well, I got a house full of Pres.... So I will still be in the Pre community since it is up to me to keep everyone's phones up to date. LOL But I am really hoping the EVO will be a belated anniversary present. LOL

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

My suggestion is to think about what you need in a phone. It's easier to trade a Hero for a Pre, but harder to trade a Pre for a Hero. Both phones have pros and cons, The Pre has multitasking, a hardware keyboard, and a more compact form factor. While the Hero has a larger screen, a larger screen and better battery life. don't make the switch just to do it, make sure it will suit your needs better.

i hardly think that a 0.1' difference in screen size is worth mentioning it twice lol

but yes, i agree with everything you say, whatever fits your needs best

i have a local classifieds website thats huge here in puerto rico, so i can very easily sell or trade a device locally for another one if i get bored with it lol, the thing is that there is ALWAYS someone that has what you want and is willing to trade

ps. i have my Pre now lol, just in time for the 800MHZ overclock, N.O.V.A and Sandstorm games (HALO and Modern Warefare BTW)

Re: possibly switching from hero to pre

My wife has a Hero and I cant tell you the aount of times I have had to reset, hard reset that phone because of issues with the OS. Im hoping 2.1 helps with the problems with the Hero and I have been leaning on the wife to get a Pre. She doesnt like the keyboard but IMO the Hero is half baked right now. Im still debating on getting the Evo at launch and if I do, there will be 2 bought. I wish Palm had leaked some info on the future Pre. June will be a tough month. I do believe WebOS is better than Android.
