Simotanious data and voice are only possible on HSPA/UMTS networks, which use the WCDMA protocol. on EDGE and GPRS networks, only one connection at a time is possible, (voice or data). My point is, that ATT is for once ahead of the curve, instead of desperately trying to jump into a moving vehicle.

Yup, but they're gonna be chasing that curve again soon unless something in the industry changes ;-)

Both LTE and Wimax services will need circuit switching to handle 1x voice, until VoiP take off, which could be years. At least SVDO offers Sprint a chance to upgrade their 1x network (which they will need for a long time, same with Verizon).

Windows Mobile comes with a standard SIP client, you just have to configure it via *cab is all. Yes, I can, (and do), use VoIP over HSPA, but the lag is very annoying, so I don't use it very much. (I go through skype). If you use the built in client, you can switch between your cellular number and the VoIP assigned number right in the dialing application. Until cellular data speeds, (and ping time), is drastically improved, VoIP over celluar will remain a "because I can" application of technology. A ping time of 397ms is not unheard of on a cellular data connection.

Even though very few people actually use it, but does this mean video calling is a possibility? Will a US carrier actually leave the standard front facing cam on the devices now? Its sounds possible

As long as both the caller and the callee are in HSPA covered areas, Video calling is indeed possible. But how are you going to know whether whoever you called is in a 3G area? That's probably why front facing models have not been released stateside. If it was, everybody would be expecting to be able to do it regardless of the network they are connected to. Since most people are technological baboons, this functionality gets left out. The closest that is currently available is ATT's "Video Sharing".

Man I hope they can just upgrade our current handsets or make it so this upgrade is really cheap for us and is practical. I want this so bad because it's very annoying trying to text and have it interrupt your data session.
