Look at the Diamond one... it says "WM7 upgrade requires hardware changes." What the heck is that supposed to mean?

The Diamond looks like it is missing the 'Windows' key and has that 'Home' key... Maybe that is why?

Possibly, but it's not like anyone is going to offer any kind of hardware upgrade for the phone. That's just misleading. It would be more honest to say that it won't be eligible for the upgrade.
