Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
As reported here, it seems that a truce of sorts is being laid out between XDA, HTC, and Microsoft in regards to ROM creations... Hopefully the status quo can stay as it has been and ROM baking will continue...

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
Wow! Jusr sucking the life out of WM.

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
It was inevitable. Without xda, HTC wouldn't have the developers for programs for their devices.

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
Did you see the replys to the article. I completely agree. If xda or ppcgeeks were not here, i would have given up on my 6700. since they are though, im looking forward to my tp2

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
Think the samething. Since HTC looks at XDA to see what improvements and such need to be made to their phones. Seems like everytime XDA fixes something, HTC includes it in their next ROM release.

wow... i feel like the rebel alliance when they destroyed the deathstar!! an unlikely win, but a win nonetheless!!!

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
It's not like MS charges HTC a boat load of money for the WM OS. I read somewhere it's between $5-$7 per phone. Can't really compare that to Vista, which is well over $100.

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
I do agree that XDA and PPCGeeks are invaluable to HTC and MS.
We are literally the beta testers for most fixes. And we choose that because we flash ROMs. In the end, I think MS and HTC will continue to let us cook ROMs, because honestly, we are only a small subset of users. |
Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
Yeah, I think MOST people aren't tech savvy enough to know or want to know how to flash ROMs on their device. I had to help a girl at work install the WM 6.1 update for her Vogue. This was 2 weeks ago. lol

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
Who are they kidding? The community fixes the flaws they leave behind in their rush to release. By remotely considering legal action against XDA, they better at least have employees that serve a comparable replacement.
Even then, I'd ditch the format. Windows Mobile aint that great. Without customizations, it's crap. |
Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
They need XDA developers, when that marketplace comes out, who do they think will be creating apps. Also without XDA and PPCGeeks I would of tossed my WM phone a long time ago.

Re: Truce between XDA, HTC and Microsoft?
Its amazing, almost unbelievable. These large companies seem to actually be using common sense in this matter, something not often seen in the world.
