Re: Editorial on WM 6.5

like i said MS will NOT integrate zune+winmo
while i am a zune fanboy, its obvious they dont wanna take away sales from the zune.
no zune phone and NO tightly integration with the two.
and this could also be another reason why we'll never get 3.5mm headphone jacks in future phones.

As far as Windows Mobile, here's what we've got:

Windows Mobile operating systems and gaming/Zune entertainment services — not a combined hardware/software platform like the iPhone — is where Microsoft is investing, Ballmer reiterated.

but Microsoft is not the reason we are hot getting 3.5 mm jacks. HTC is.

Re: Editorial on WM 6.5

I don't know. Considering that HTC makes 80% of Windows mobile devices, they are making android powered devices, the fact that they are packaging opera with devices, and had Google Maps in the original European TF3D and not Live search, HTC may have more power of control than you think.

I prefer to relate it to the issue that was mentioned by someone in another thread that 3.5 mm jacks are a source of problems and if you have it via usb then that is one less port to worry about your warranty program having to cover, thereby reducing cost.

Oh and if that MS were really forcing that issue I would think we would not be getting an adapter for 3.5mm jacks with our devices.

Years from now iphone and android will still look the same, just minor tweaks here and there to stay up to date.

No, its not like Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a distribution, which is a packaging up of both the core OS and a large massive pile of apps, all in a nice "this should work" package.

With Ubuntu, you get OS updates. Often. Like Magic. Twice a year, you get a whole distro update which you can choose to migrate too. If you don't not much will change other then bugfixes, AND kernel (OS) updates.

Going from 2.4x to 2.6 kernels is what we're talking about here if we are going to use linuxspeak as the metaphor. It's time to move forward...

What we are seeing with windows is the old Windows CE Core that has been around since windows mobile 5. No MAJOR change in the core OS. Nada. For like, er, 5 years now.

We keep hoping to see Windows CE 6 core come out. We wait, and hope, and watch as Apple goes through 2 major OS releases, Palm and Google create whole new platforms from scratch, and even the blackberry platform is dragged into the 21st century.

Meanwhile, Microsoft does... honeycombs. Wooo. See, it's not a grid of icons... its a HONEYCOMB

Meh. Update the core already. Oh, yeah, that will be out in 2010. About 2 more major revs of iPhone, Palm, and Android should have happened by then.

oh okay, i thought they were making core changes.. i didnt know theyve kept the same core code all these years!! WTF?

geezz.. thanks for clearing that up guys.

yes, i can imagine 3.5mm jacks being a repair issue, but i mean heck.. htc makes some quality products they outta have a durable jack.. but people these days dont take care of their phones.. i shudder when i see people just throwing their phones around and treating them like crud..

Meh It seems a little bias, but yes MS is BSing around. Maybe the App store will due it some justice. The glory of WM devices is that it can be modded to do what you want.
