11 WinMo Devices Sold 1 Million or more units
 
More good news that WinMo devices are selling well.

Microsoft recently announced there had been a 11 platinum Windows Mobile handsets, handsets which sold in excess of 1 million units.
Mike Temporale (previously from Pocketpcthoughts?) from MobileJaw managed to get the full list of devices from Microsoft, and it read like a who’s who of star Windows Mobile devices. Some devices do also however make an unexpected appearance. Who would have thought the HTC Artemis or the HTC Titan sold so well?
The full list, and their associated release dates read as follows:

Jul-07 HTC Titan
Jul-07 HTC Touch

Jun-08 HTC Touch Diamond
Aug-08 Samsung Omnia

As noted by Mike, Windows Mobile Standard devices are heavily represented on the list, with the SMT 5600, Motorola Q, T-Mobile Dash and the 2 Blackjacks holding prominent positions. In fact its only recently that Touch screen devices have gained significantly in popularity, likely in part due to the influence of the iPhone.
Also of interest is the importance of the US market, with devices which were mainly released in the US but not much elsewhere, such as the Motorola Q and Blackjack.
Also of note is that only 2 million sellers were released in 2008, vs 4 in 2007 and 2006. This is in the face of increased Windows Mobile sales, meaning sales were spread more evenly amongst more devices.

Nice to see that Sprint had four of those (Q, Titan, Touch and Touch Diamond). The Touch Pro/Fuze and Treo Pro will probably make the list too. Not so confident about the 800w.

WOOHOO...

Touch Diamond!

I am surprised that Palm does not have one on that list. I thought they did very well with the 700 series.

Yeah, I'd be real surprised if the 800w made the list this year. I think its pretty much dead :-({|=

Omnia made it!!!! Hoo Rah!!!!!

I'm with lawmangrant with being shocked at not seeing the 700 series on the list, I thought it did a lot better, but I think I know what happened:

Much like dannzeman's point about the 800w being dead (or on the way out) I think Palm releases too much too fast. Instead of waiting until (I know...the irony of saying they should hold off on anything LOL) they have a great device, they release one (700w) work on it a bit and release another with minor differences (700wx) and then another in a very short time-frame (750). They did the same thing with the 800w. No sooner did thet come out they re-do the PRO to replace it. They don't have one out long enough to be on this list!!!!

P.S. I hope dannzeman won't mind me copying this over to the Omnia forum!!! :-)

Really? I find it easier to read, it contrasts better with the dark blue background in the quotes.

I have a feeling it will be more than 12 in a very short time-frame. Some of the devices out now haven't met their full selling potential yet (PRO, Touch Pro....) and some of the ones on the horizon (PRE, i8910.....) are only getting better, and I think you will not only see people upgrading faster and faster, but a lot of 'cell phone' users going to PPC/smartphones because they are becomming the swiss army knife of technology.
