looks like old news to me. Look at the build number. I already have all of this except for the new today screen.

Looks nice, but I am not sure its totally real. Like the other poster said, where's the ROM?

Re: Another wm 6.5 Thread

ok, i call shenanigans.

why would they have the office logo as the start button

icons look like tsowens

i already have that battery monitor

home screen looks like that sliding panels thing or its a mocked photoshop.

the windows live is from 2007

windows media player is still version 10, i would thik they would have updated it to 11

all the icons are programs that are availible here and xda

There is an xip 21140 floating around so it is quite possibly real. I have it and I am trying to port it but I am sure conflipper will beat me to it. =P

Seems WM 6.5 won't be released until September...

* Windows Mobile 6.5 RTM (release to manufacturing): April 2009
* First Windows Mobile 6.5 devices from cell phone makers: September 2009
* Windows Mobile 7.0 release to testers: November 2009
* First Windows Mobile 7.0 devices from cell phone makers: April 2010
Wow. Just, Wow.
Someone needs to light a fire under their behinds. Sure, we'll all have this stuff months earlier thanks to the magic rom gnomes, but how do they expect to hold market share (hell, mindshare?) with the endless deluge of iPhone, Android, and Pre hoopla between now and SPRING 2010? WinMo 6.5 is a non-event (TF3d is a better bolt-on then anything leaked so far, for crying out loud.)

Wow. Heads should be rolling. They need to raid apple for some talent. Or balls. Or something.

I'm so completely unimpressed with WM 6.5. It looks like another minor upgrade akin to WM 6 and 6.1. Every other mobile platform now has a better interface out of the box than WM.

I think it will still be decent they just need to hurry this stuff up. Course they might be going slow because of the economy. They might be laying off workers and also is it really a good time to release a new platform during a time when money's low?

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/22/m...ticons-abound/

and here:

"The layoffs, starting with 1,400 on Thursday, will affect workers in research and development, marketing, sales, finance, legal and corporate affairs, human resources and information technology, and mostly in Redmond, Wash., where the company is based. The cuts are expected to touch virtually every division and include the computer programmers who write code for existing and future applications."

From what I read, that includes the mobile division :/

WM 6.5 is turning out a little like Skyfire ... lots of hype and sizzle, but very slow to evolve. Of course, the Geeks have little patience for all this ... myself included. Sure hoping something good will come of the new Firefox mobile browser.

I really hate that home screen

Re: Another wm 6.5 Thread

Personally - I really don't get what the hype is all about. Every time I read on one of the RSS feeds how raving cool this new version is supposed to be, I scratch my head and I'm wondering if I'm just not getting it????

The sliding/magnifying bars on the home screen are okay - but not great. The honey-comb arrangement on the app screen makes me crinch: it is butt ugly, unorganized, not much more user friendly than what we have now.

If they would just stick with something and make it attractive and WORKING!!!

Take the TF3D: It has the LOOKS. I like it. BUT: if they had only taken it a step further and made it customizable. I want to put what I need on my home screen. I want it scrollable. Why not integrate the expanding bars of 6.5 into that screen?

Alt Menus: I want them big, like in 6.5 and customizable. I want to have the features I actually use in the TF3D interface, like Dismiss or Delete as either a soft button option or an alt menu option in my mail tab.

Contacts page: I would like to decide what info I want on my contacts page, chose from different layouts (side bar OR photo squares etc), and I want to be able to organize them in tabs for most frequent Family, Business & Friends contacts.

Photo tab: I have lots of ideas on this one, but mainly I would like to have tabbed access in the photo view to more than one favorite folder.

The list could go on, but my point is, that I feel at a loss why they would abandon development of TF3D, when it could be improved on so greatly!!! Instead of starting from scratch and ironing out the bugs again.

I think its a step in the right direction, to see what i'm saying turn off you TF3D and that were Windows Mobile is at right now, I agree its not perfect but its an improvement :-)

Re: Another wm 6.5 Thread

This is probably more of an incremental update (hence the .5) to stem the flow. They probably worked on memory management and tweaked under the hood while making it a little more finger friendly now that touch screen phones are all the rage. I wouldn't expect anything drastic until WM7 (which I would love to see even a teaser of at MWC dammit!)

I loved this:
"Windows Mobile 6.5 devices should be hitting the shelves in late-2009 in time for Christmas."

Nice sense of urgency there, Microsoft.

Re: Footage of WM 6.5 beta

So now that Ive actually seen the UI running, I really hope this is not anything like the final product. Hmmm...lets compare microsoft to apple and palm. Serioulsy. This is something a 3rd grader would design. There is no "cool" factor at all! If the pre gets video for verizon...im gone if this is the new interface...

The refreshed operating system carries all the hallmarks of former versions, but has now been redesigned to include a honeycomb interface taking key inspiration from the company’s Zune MP3 player optimised for the touch of a finger rather than frantic stylus poking.
From your locked device you’ll now have a drop-down menu giving you shortcuts into the most frequent functions, such as messages or missed calls.
"Part of the new Windows Phone is that there will be a unified look", Microsoft said. "Manufacturer’s will not be able to customise the interface as much as they have done in the past however will be able to make slight alterations here and there".
The news is likely to affect companies like Sony Ericsson, HTC and Toshiba who have in the past focused on customisation to make the Windows Mobile experience very different from what Microsoft supply.
"We have a very strong relationship with Microsoft", John Wang, the chief marketing officer for HTC told Pocket-lint when asked what HTC was planning on doing with the news, suggesting that HTC may be allowed a bit more leeway than other parties.
A new version of Internet Explorer will also be introduced, which Microsoft boldly claim will negate the need for a third-party browser. “We want to make sure that our browser has the best out of the box experience”, Microsoft told Pocket-lint.
Windows Mobile 6.5 devices should be hitting the shelves in late-2009 in time for Christmas.

Re: Another wm 6.5 Thread

So what does that mean for those of us that have a 6.1 version phone? Will we be left out of the official support? For instance, I have a Touch Pro and during the conference HTC announced the Touch Pro 2 that will be released with WM 6.1 and will be upgradable to WM 6.5. From the looks of it Microsoft is wanting the Windows Logo button on all WM 6.5 hardware, does this mean that Sprint/Verizon are going to bypass the older hardware?

I am sure we will get some ROMs that will allow us 6.1 users to upgrade, but since we don't have the Windows button are we going to be crippled?

Re: Another wm 6.5 Thread

According to MS, no current devices on the market will be offered WM 6.5.

That's too bad. I'm sure some ROM Chef's will prepare, but it would be nice if it was supported by the manufacturer and/or provider.

Re: Another wm 6.5 Thread

From everything I heard, D2 and TP2 will get a free upgrade.....cool but what about others that have a D or a TP (or older models), is MS going to just leave them hanging.

Well WM 6.5 may not be no Android or Apple OS but I guess its a start *sarcastic shrug*
