Texting while driving is not only dangerous, it's retarded. I see the kids doing it all the time where I live and it's not a good thing.

My neighbor across the street is one of those people who cannot seem to drive unless she has her phone stuck to her ear.

I don't get it... If the call is that important, pull over and talk then get back on the road.

The law is too subjective though, no offense to those who have been affected by it personally, but you will have a bias torwards the subject obviously.

Look at it this way, someone is just as distracted while searching for a place of buisness, or looking for a road sign while in a area you aren't familiar with. Should we ban being lost and looking for certain places of buisness and or address or familiar road name as well. People get distracted while driving because they are ****ing stupid, not because of texting. Personally, I don't live in California, and I don't text while driving, maybe once I did it, but I managed to do it just fine cause I wouldn't stare down at my phone oblivious to my driving. I am looking back and forth, keeping a good bead on my driving, it's possible to do these things. Hell, I travel down the beltway everyday, I look at my Ipod every other second while changing a album or playlist, no accidents on my record.

Case in point, this sets a dangerous precident for people even holding a phone in their hands while driving for legit reasons. Case by case basis, some people can just pay attention to both, but most of the time, those people are sensible enough not to do it regularly, but you have complete dumb drooling ****tards texting there "OMG BFF" and just staring down at their phone and just keep driving not even looking. Idiots, stupidity, punish the masses cause of the idiocy of the few...or maybe the idiots are outnumbering the smart people at this point...who knows.

Case in point, my friends girlfriend became the DD one night at a party, we made a stop at McDonalds, nvm the fact that getting there she blew thru 2 stop signs. Then as we leave McDonalds, she is staring into her bag trying to unwrap her sandwich and eat it, runs a light on main st, runs two more stop signs, and almost crashes into a curb on the way to a "safe" evening. I think one of our drunk asses could have driven much better...to conclude though, despite our constant warning her, she will never cease to be a ****ing moron.
