The software is the base for the company's mobile platform, which in its current version includes devices with naming conventions as Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition and Windows Mobile Smartphone.

The new naming conventions are:
# Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone becomes Windows Mobile 6 Standard
# Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition becomes Windows Mobile 6 Professional
# Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC becomes Windows Mobile 6 Classic

The built-in email client now supports HTML email along with POP accounts. Office Mobile is now included with Windows Mobile 6 Standard and a new calendar ribbon in the calendar application that makes it easier to see free and busy time, Windows Live client that integrates Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail and Internet Sharing, to allow the device to be used as a modem through networking instead of the DUN profile.

Major new features include:

* HTML support in email
* Windows Live for Windows Mobile
* File transfer capability in Windows Live Messenger
* New versions of mobile Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with rich editing
* Remote wipe capability for stolen and lost devices
* Call history in contact cards
* Tight Vista integration
* "Calendar ribbon" for more easily viewing schedule by day or week
* New versions of .NET Compact Framework and SQL Server built-in

here's the link to the site http://mobilitytoday.com/news/windows_6_announced.html I like the HTML support in email and the remote wipe capability for stolen and lost devices sounds interesting. I wonder how exactly they'll be able to do that? Another link to basically the same artical http://mobilitytoday.com/news/windows_mobile_6_pre.html

If remote wipe works like i'm thinking it is more for businesses running these phones and managing them centrally. It is kind of like an SMS Kill Pill. Although with the kind of support we have for these smartphones at some point it's bound to work from a home PC or the web also.

Funny that it doesn't include Voice Command. I thought this was going to be integrated. It is in the leaked Crossbow rom. Maybe someone just put it in there.

Whats the big deal with it coming to T-Mobile first? And it says in the article about upgrading the os from wm5 to wm6. How can they upgrade a phone that has wm5 on it to wm6? I didn't think that was possible. Or is it that the providers have the equipment to do it and we dont?

the same way the upgraded from 2003 to 5.0. we can do it no ones realy dug in to try and port it to the apache but its already on some other devices.

The upgrade from 2003 to 5.0 doesn't really mean that much to me because I just started following this stuff after I got my 6700. So the only thing I know is 5.0. That would be cool if we could get wm6 for 6700s. Do we have the hardware to run it smoothly though?
