Think My Q is defective

Yesterday after about 4 hrs of use my Q died battery was reading 1/4 life but the Q wouldn't come on. All it would do is, when I press the power on and the Sprint splash screen comes on for around 20 seconds than it turns off, after about 2 seconds it comes on again sprint splash appears 20 seconds off again, this happens 3 times than the Q turns off completely. All I had with me was the usb sync charge cable so I pledged it in to my laptop, after about 20 minutes and after removing the battery for about 60 seconds the Q came back on. I went in to a Sprint store and was told that I need to call CS to get anything done because the phone is too new and it is only available from the CS line. I called CS and got a return kit on the way. I went to a best buy and got a extended battery to see if the battery was the problem. No change. After a full charge on both batterys the symptoms have changed a little but same results, I go to The Mobile Stream Center for example, start playback on a station and after about 15 minutes the Q turns its self off and start the screen cycle again the only way to fix it is to remove the battery for about 1 minute.
Anyone got any ideas or is this Q defective?

Sorry to hear about your Q problems

It my be a heat issue, but even if it is it sounds like it's defective to me. :(

Big D,

That happened to me once the other day. Not sure why.

Some others at SU have reported in a thread that their Q doesn't "wake up".

Edit: What do you have installed? Any SD card?

Big D5 01-27-2007 04:51 PM

All I have installed is CF 2.0, on demand, and live search. All are installed to my 1 gig sd card. I am beginning to think that I might just need to cycle the batterys a few times. the OEM battery lasted about 5 hrs today, I don't know. I hate to send the thing in, go without a phone for 10 days than have them send it back to me and tell me there is nothing wrong with it.

have you tried a hard reset yet. that may fix the problem.

Big D5 01-27-2007 05:08 PM

All I know of is the master reset in the system tools folder and I have tried that with no success. But thanks for the suggestion, and if there is another way please let me know.

ok this is what i got off another site to do a hard reset on the Q

This is after MOL2 for Verizon, not sure if it changed.

To do a hardware master reset, do the following:

1. With phone off, hold down action button (center silver button in D-pad)
2. Press and hold power button (red button on right under RSK)
3. At verizon logo, release red button
4. I continued to hold center button, not sure if you need to or not.

I'm sure it will. It seems to be an isolated issue with a couple of Q's.

Like I said, it happened only once to me since Tues (crossfingers) but has been fine since then.

Mala have you tried the bluetooth? It seams to have something to do with the bluetooth. After the hard reset yesterday I wanted to try some different things and all was well till I turned on the bluetooth. Now I just had to put the motorola back in the box it wont stay on more than about 20 seconds than goes to the cycle thing even with the bluetooth off. I have 2 batterys now and neither one will keep it working.

I've tried it. It's paired with my 640 headset (and it works wonderfully).

Not sure if my BT was left on when it occurred but I don't think it was...

Guess I could play around with it.

Just a quick update, I still don't have a working Q, I just received the return paperwork from Sprint to send the defective one back. I still have my 700wx and I am expecting the return paperwork for it to arrive early next week, got my fingers crossed. I have only spent around 6 hrs total on the phone with CS, 5 different reps, finley got one good CS rep willing to try to help, but still wound up talking to retentions. After I had a screaming fit :argue: I am getting what I was promised in the first place. This is only do to the fact that the first rep that promised me the exchange of the 700wx for the Q put the ESN for the 700wx in the computer. Always make them read back what is being put in your notes at the end of any transaction, without a reset this is the only way to protect your self.

yeah i know someone going through the same thing trying to swap out their RAZR for a Q. Sprint ended up adding a 2nd line instead of replacing the RAZR  , so now they have to send their new Q back and then their RAZR then get the new new Q for their account.

CS can be real bad sometimes...

budney 02-04-2007 01:31 AM

Good luck Big D! I had the biggest runaround when CS agreed to replace my second 6700 with a 700wx. I ended up going through retentions. I was so ready to cancel my 4 lines after blowing 2 days of my vacation running around SoCal trying to get the 6700 swapped. :(

Big D5 02-13-2007 10:21 PM

8 more hours on the phone with Sprint CS over the last 3 days and still no Q. No 700wx either and a $800 balance on my phone bill. Retentions says all will be taken care of and I will owe nothing. Believe it when I see it. I should have the Q by friday they say, CS rep gave me her email address so I can contact her if a problem arrises from here forward. If this doesn't get worked out I might just have to post that email address along with detail of my ordeal so 7406 registered users can vent all there CS frustrations.
