So What Works With The Q?

I am too lazy to go onto Qusers.com to read but what can I install from here onto my Q?

I tried City ID last night and it was horrible ..

So I removed it from my Q

I like my q but there isn't anthing usefull thats for free, everything is pay, i just might go back to my ppc sell the q :|

I found some nice free stuff.

Here is a list from Qusers:
http://www.qusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1639

Automatic Keylock: Highly configurable device lock that will lock the device every time the screen shuts off (or you can set it for interval). You can even set it so that it won't engage on certain profiles or while charging. Simply brilliant.

Candelight: Toggle the screen light from full to half. Saves battery life at night.

Don't Forget: sets up reoccurring alarms for missed calls, sms, email, alarms, etc. Set the time and number of repeats as well as .wav file. Can also disable for certain profiles (e.g. Silent) and can even switch a profile for you.

SKTools Lite Keep your Q clean and problem free

Octro: Gtalk, AIM, ICQ and Google VOIP

Beersoft Battery Monitor
: Haven't tried it yet but it supposedly calculates remaining battery time.

Yup.

Not sure if I'm going to keep it, I haven't even activated it yet.

It has it's pros and cons certainly. Luckily I have 30 days. Here's how it looks now...

To add:

PhoneAlarm: automates switching of profiles and has neat home screen plugin (here's my homescreen)

Facade: Show multiple calendar entries on home screen (as opposed to only one)

Styletap: Run Bike or Die on your Q :) I guess it's good for other Palm apps like Kinoma

Newsbreak: For RSS, homescreen plugin available

Sling, Resco Exp,Tube for subway maps, Sprite Backup for backups, Mortscript for Scripting, Java for gmaps & gmail & other etcs

Ae Buttons Plus: Still a great task switcher!

That is legit! What are you using for the TV reminder software?

I was using PTVL for my Treo 700wx and it added Scrubs to my calander and repeats itselft. When I re-synced to Outlook it just added it back in...

PTVL supposedly does work for SP but I have to try it.

Question about phone alarm,
I had it on my PPC-6700 and it worked great. I downloaded the smartphone addition to my Q, but the reminder alarms are not working. Any special tricks to get it to function properly?

Malatesta 01-27-2007 06:26 PM

Actually, not to discourage you from using PA as I'm a big fan myself and thing Bruce is a great developer, on the smartphone I found less of a need for it (plus it's still a little buggy being in it's early stages).

You can get a free program called Don't Forget which basically reminds you of missed SMS, email, VM, etc and is configurable for amount of repeats. It can even be disabled for the Silent profile.

It is not as fancy nor as configurable as phone alarm but for basic repeating of alarms it's great.

Combine that with Profile Switcher ($4.95) and a Homescreen with the counters and you have about 80% of PhoneAlarm.

yeah Mal I kinda agree, I want to try out Auto Keylock as it sounds cool but I'm afraid of having yet another memory resident hoohah after phoneAlarm, facade, newsbreak, ae buttons, right menu... sheesh.

But i'm lazy so I might keep pA on for now :)

lol, we think alike.

I just uninstalled PhoneGuard for the same reasons: try to cut down on mem resident apps.

I'm just doing Autokey lock, Don't Forget and Profile Switcher right now. They are all pretty lite on the system.

PA I tried but it started to play incoming alerts with WMP. I know I could have gotten around that but I thought PA behaved slowly on the system. Still, those skins are cool.

I actually got phone alarm working pretty good. It took me a while to figure out the settings, as it is different than the PPC version. Also it looks like using a .mid sound for an alarm is not a good idea. Seems quick and stable. As an alternative I tried to find a home screen with a battery and signal meter, but the only monitor plugin I found locked up my device. Any suggestions on a home screen with a battery and signal meter?
Also, I am trying to use AE button plus, or Xbar, but whenever a hot key is assigned, it takes over the whole function of the key. Like with AE button, if I assign the Action key or one of the Soft keys to open the task manager with two clicks, I can't use that key anymore for anything else. How are you setting it up to work correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated

g-funkster 01-28-2007 10:22 AM

AE: The only button I could readily map was the camera button, and that's fine for me to give up. I assigned the task manager to that, so I can access it from anywhere... i need that task manager :P

As for the other buttons, AE sucks for smartphone. For instance, if you handle the left soft key, it doesn't give you the option to send a 'left soft key press' on single tap so you can't continue to use it normally :?:

i kinda gave up but keep trying different keys out.
