My Gmail account is not syncing to my Droid.

I've never had a Gmail account until I purchased the Droid yesterday, but it was set up for me at the Verizon store I purchased the phone from. I was wondering why I didn't receive several emails I was expecting today, and noticed when I went into the account via the browser the emails were in my inbox, but they were not coming through to my Droid. I don't understand why, and I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing to enable the account to sync?
