wants a droid, but limited storage space?

I read that it only has about 256mb for apps, and you can't install anything on the sd card. I don't do alot of gaming, but they do have alot of apps that i wanna get a hold of. how big are the apps anyways, and do ya'll think 20 apps would take up the whole storage amount?

I dont think this is going to be a problem. I've already installed 32 apps to mine and I still have 201mb of the 256mb available. I do believe it wont be long before developers make it possible to install apps to the SD card, but I'm not so sure I'll even need that capability.

Na, the apts are normally very light client side, 1.4mb was the largest one I have thus far. Most of the content is streamed to the phone in most cases.

what is the sd card available for. would I be able to take and save pic/music/video to it? I have alot of divx movies that i wouldn't mind throwin on there especially with 16gb

android is linux based and therefore the memory is allocated differently. your able to store allot more then a windows based system. thats one of the reasons the linux netbooks you see all have smaller solid state drives in them.

Any pictures or videos you take with the phone go straight to the sd card. You can also store movies, music, docs, pretty much anything you want on it. I already have 26 movies and a few gigs worth of music in mine along with several wallpapers I've downloaded and created and I'm down to 5 gigs available. I might cut back to just keeping 10 or 15 movies in it. I dont think it's compatible with divx though, it primarily uses mp4 like the iphone does. If you need any help converting movies to put on it there are lots of places tht have info available on how to do it, or you can just PM me :)

Plus the apps store data on the card (caches etc) just the binary itself sits on the memory.

Actually most apps are no more than 2 megs, however for something like a game that require large video or sound files. That data can be stored on the SD card, only executables need be stored in phone memory. I LOVE my Droid, coming from a HTC Vogue thia thing is utterly amazing!

To me, the Droid seems almost perfect. It's got the reliability and smooth operation of the iPhone with the customization and openness of WM. WM7 is going to have to be nothing short of amazing to get me back.

Well I can't add to much that hasn't already been said but yeah, you won't run into any memory issues unless you just go through installing every app you can find. I have installed LOTS and I'm not even close to getting it full.

ok u guys got me pumped, i think i need to rob a bank or somethin so i DONT HAVE TO WAIT 2 WEEKS, i want one NOW lol

Re: wants a droid, but limited storage space?

You don't have to rob a bank, If your doing an upgrade, you can put upto 225$ on the account and pay it monthly or next month. Also if your buying it fresh, because your 2year isn't up, there's a 1year upgrade that only makes it 30-60$ more overall from the 2year upgrade.

Also if you wanna pull some tricks Idk if you can find it any more, but wallmart was price matching some credible websites that was selling them for 159.99 w/o rebate or any thing. You might be able to stretch that if they haven't caught on yet.

Found it, Dell.com is selling it for 119.99

i got an email from verizon where i can do an early upgrade @ the 2yr price which is 299 with the $100 mail-in rebate . if i went to the dell site i'd have to pay the 559 or whatever

BryanGT 11-20-2009 01:46 AM

Re: wants a droid, but limited storage space?

Yeah I think the dell one is only with new customers or 2years... I didn't dig into the fine print yet, but 299 with the 100$ rebate is basically what 99% of the people paid day of release. Also I belive accessories are 45% off after you buy the phone, so leave a little scratch for the dock (its a really nice home charger/alarmclock/weather.)

If you do your new every 2 over the website, don't they take the $100 rebate right then and there, no need for forms?

VZW sometimes sends promotions to customers who aren't eligible to upgrade yet. In these cases, you have to go through telesales, which uses the rebates. If you are able to order through the verizon website, then the rebate is instant. In both cases, you should be able to have it billed to the account, so no money up front.
