Will it be possible to port WM on Droid?

Just throwing it out there...
I've seen it the other way and just wonder if it will be possible to have Windows Mobile on Moto Droid?

Anybody has any insights?

well it's possible, but anyone that would actually know how to do it, I would say, would never ever want to because it wouldn't be worth all the work it would take.

It's definitely possible.

I think thats actually a really good idea. Why not? Even if you like Android better than WM, whats wrong with having options? I would rather the phone be able to do something (even if I didnt use it often) rather than not be able to do it at all.

I'm acctually holding my new "Moto Droid 2.0" in my hands.. I don't see why you'd want to put Windows on the phone its self.. maybe on an SD card sure. But so far I'm highly impressed with the easy of use and the speed of 2.0 over WM 6.5 on my Imagio

Re: Will it be possible to port WM on Droid?

I'm pretty sure thats what he meant. Kinda like how Vogue users can run "Android" over WM from the SD card. On my Vogue I have WM, Android, and the iPhone OS. (by iPhone OS I mean Ultimate Launch since basically they are both just app launchers :p )

Re: Will it be possible to port WM on Droid?

Well, i was just thinking that since android doesn't have that much apps yet maybe its possible to run WM (either from SD or Virtual environment or whatever) so one can use all the apps available for WM.

But if there is gonna be a lot of comparable apps coming out for Droid than I wouldn't care about porting WM to Droid myself.

Re: Will it be possible to port WM on Droid?

I've been looking into Android quite a bit lately and I havent been able to find an app that I use regularly in WM that Android doesnt have as well. Thats just for me though, obviously that'll be different depending on what apps you use. I would still just want to be able to boot it from the SD card though. Why make a choice and limit yourself to just one when you could have both (assuming that this is even possible lol)

Where can I read about android apps ?

Re: Will it be possible to port WM on Droid?

If you go to the android homepage you can look into a few hundred of the available apps there, and there's a lot of talk about apps at www.androidforums.com. Just looking through the 300 or so apps listed at the android homepage was enough to see that android has all the apps I need, but you have to actually be browsing the marketplace from a handset to see them all. I've looked through the market place from my vogue using the android on it as well.

I have a touch pro 2, but if this was possible, it would work around the problem of not running apps from the SD card (I read that somewhere) as well as working with wm 7 when it comes around. Because of the resistive screen on the tp2 it isn't immediately ready for wm7 whereas this phone would be.

Re: Will it be possible to port WM on Droid?

I would love to have win mo on my droid just for syncing functions. But then it wouldn't carry over to android anyway so guess there is no point. That and it took me almost a month to get my imagio running as fast as my droid, trying to get win mo to run correctly on a device not made to run windows mobile would be a never ending battle I feel.

personaly, I miss some of the organization and polish from winmo. I want total commander, and a cascading foldered ap drawer. And some way to quickly swap between open aps, like quick menu. I'm sure tjese things are coming, along with predictive dialing, abetter call history and a more tightly integrated calendar...

Can't wait

This is already available. Just tap and hold on the home button. It brings up the open apps list.

Nice! I didn't know about this, I'll have to tell my wife, she has the Moment.

As far as the porting question goes, I'm not sure if it would be legal. Correct me if I am wrong: since Android is open source, it is perfectly legal to port it to any device that is desired. However, WM is not open source, and due to copyright (?) infringements, you can't port WM to a non-WM device under the same legal blanket. True?
