I just rooted last week and and am decidedly less excited about this than I was before.

So...since we are rooted, will we be able to install this manually, or will we have to wait for a hack?(I know I can go back to stock & get the update, I just want to stay rooted)

Yes, someone will post the update once it becomes available. But I'm probably just going to wait until people start coming out with cleaned-up ROMs based on the update.

I'm with you. I just hope that the 2.1 will be a more stable base to put the N1 app drawer into and possibly run some animated wallpapers. Other than that I'm not too interested in the update.

Still it is news worthy.

Well they did say 2.1 was a maintenance release and not a feature release.

Someone had mentioned that this update would block rooting. Is this true?

Yes, this. We already have most of the features that we could possibly want from 2.1 so the only things we really stand to gain is a stable version of the new app launcher. I'll be anxious to see what the ROM makers do with the official 2.1 for our Droids though :D

exactly. since I'm using the Sholesmod, i think the 2.1 release would be a downgrade.
now, on my wife's the other hand, she may be happy.
