Gorrilla Glass!

So, I have been using a screen protector and I never really liked it but I got used to it. The other day I was helping a buddy out with his new Droid and I forgot how much I hate my screen protector.

So I did some research and found that the Motorola Droid screen has Gorilla Glass!!!

What is Gorilla Glass? http://www.corning.com/gorillaglass/index.aspx

This stuff is the cat's meow of glass screens. Even the pictures where people have broken the screen on their Droids, the LCD Is still working correctly. This just goes to show how good gorilla glass is.

Anyways... ditched my screen protector today... I feel good about it... and my droid feels good because of it.

hence being the 1st person on this fourm to destroy said glass, I still wish for a AMOLED, so instead of being resisted to cracks; the products rendered crack proof (rip or dent not so much, but dent's are more livable then spider cracks on your "touch screen")

Good to hear though, I never use a screen protector because I've hated them since the dawn of time, where you had "cut your own protector" or "custom fit" protectors. Putting those on flawlessly was a pain if possible (which i think it isn't, even the distributed will send you on your way with air bubbles behind it.)

I keep on thinking about inviso sheild, but then again I have seen that done wrong too :(

I put the Zagg Invisibleshield on my Droid and my fiance's Eris. It was my first experience with any type of screen protector, so, while not 100% perfect, the bubbles are gone and there is very little wrinkle. I have a piece of fuzz that got stuck to the inside of mine, but overall I'd say 95% good. A small price to pay for devices that are so reliant on touch screens. The trick is to keep the card they give you wet and press out the bubbles WHILE you lay the screen on. (I learned that on hers, after I had done mine).

Just a little input for you guys to consider.

Oh I was meticulous when I put mine on. The trick is to run the shower for a bit to get the dust out of the air.
I had no problems with installing it.I just couldn't stand the texture or the overall feel. any thing that's going to physically bust your screen wont be stopped by a screen protector.
Gorilla glass is very scratch resistant.

I have a Zagg on mine and love it. It was fairly simple to apply and there are no bubbles our lint under it. I have had it on for a while and it still looks brand new. It cannot be scratched. I paid $30 bucks for it at Best Buy, but it has and will outlast any other protector by far, so it's worth it IMHO. Plus it has a lifetime warranty. I live in the New Mexico desert so sand is an everyday part of life. Here a screen protector is a must.

I didn't ditch it because of air bubbles or dust/lint. I ditched it because I could tell there was a screen protector and I definitely preferred the feel of the glass.

I left the rest of my full body invisi-sheild... but there's really no need for a screen protector on this phone, because the screen is scratch and chip resistant using a type of glass that's only been really pushed into the mobile spectrum late this last year.

Re: Gorrilla Glass!

i ditched 2 different screen protectors and am now completely naked (no case either). i never really liked screen protectors for all the reasons mentioned, but i used them on my old phones because the screens scratched so easily (htc 6700 and 6800). it was second nature to get one for the droid, but the verizon one didnt cover the softkeys and had some cutouts that didn't corresond to anything so i got one from handheld items but hate how "smooth" it made things feel. I would often swipe and my finger glide so effortlessly that it didn't quite register. it also just smeared all the oils off my fingers--i could not just wipe them off.

i did some reading on gorrilla glass and off came this protector (that coincidentally also left some adhesive on the scren that i had to wipe off). Now when i have oils on the screen, i can once again get them off instead of it just smearing all over the whole screen. the tactile feedback is good--just a small amount of friction. i only care about scratches and this glass is touted to have pretty good scratch resistance.

This is the first device I have used without keeping it in a case. It is very durable and the screen is definitely scratch proof. I keep it in my pocket with no screen protecter and have never had any issues with the battery cover coming off. My tp1 and 2 would get hairline scratches from being in my pocket with no protecter. Good job moto (surprisingly)

I believe that this is great glass, but I still don't feel comfortable without a SP. Out here in the desert the sand ruins everything. You should see the windows on vehicles here. They are streaked with scratches. I'd like to have a dummy Droid to test out and see what it can take. My father has an iPhone and it looks like someone has take sandpaper to the front, although it isn't Gorilla Glass (I don't think??).

yeah, old habits die hard. iphone doesn't have it and neither do cars. did you watch that vid?
