Could you explain what this is? I can restore my phone to this image? And what does it represent exactly? Compared to a nandroid backup? Thanks?

Yes it is just the latest version if the recovery image, includes some new features, like progress bars instead of dots!

It is just the newest version of nandroid. Install it the same way you originally installed nandroid.

You ain't kidding. They also didn't tell you anything. After it was done, you were always left wondering, was that enough dots?

recovery-0.99.1b

This release is mostly about support for a few more ways for subprocesses to communicate with the user. Specifically, subprocesses can now create menus and lists of radio buttons to the user and receive the results on stdin. Also, the names of the options in the advanced backup/restore menus have been changed to be less confusing. Finally, there have been a few minor stability improvements.
Downloader Here

To Install
Quote:

adb shell
$ su
su
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.1b.img
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.1b.img
# reboot
reboot
mines in /sdcard/tools but i have installed it fine with the adb shell :)
