anyone use bettercut and can provide screenshots or a review as if the app is worth the $2 with all the icon packs i find when searching "bettercut" on the market. seems they all need open home full or bettercut to work. :confused1:

OK, I was intrigued enough to put forth the effort. There were a few shortcuts that it wouldnt let me change, but I've only played with it for about 15 minutes or so, so I might be missing something. So far though, even if it's not able to change a few of the icons on my phone, it's definitely worth 2.00 to change the ones it can. I downloaded 10 of the 30 or so (approximate) icon packs on the market and changed a few icons so I could post up my results. These are probably not even the icons I'll keep for these apps, I just picked some in a hurry to post this pick here. Pair up an icon pack with the right background and you could totally build your own themes with this app, aaaaaaaand as another added bonus, these icons are also able to be used with Apps Organizer. The before icons are on the left and the after icons are on the right with the exception of the "firefox" which has the before icon on the right and the after icon on the left (forgot to switch places before I took the screen shot)
P.S. I know the black background has some color issues, but I wanted to have a black background to really show just the icons so I just took a pic with my finger over the lens and used that for a background, so thats why the background looks crappy :)

Well I may purchase it then but what apps can't be skinned?

I'd would have to compare it to my downloads list to know for sure, but I remember noticing that a few apps were not in the list of customizable shortcuts. It wasnt very many though. Some of the soundboards I have and PDANet were not in the list, but it has an option to "create new shortcut" that I havent really played with much yet. Hopefully that will work for the ones that dont show on the list, we'll see.

Those all work, but I didnt change the icon for the browser or for the market cause I kinda like those :). I might change them later though after I browse through all the icon packs and see what all is in them :). The icon packs are all free, just doa market search for "icon" and you'll get a ton of results. It looks like you may be able to use just about any pictue you want as well judging from the options menu in the app.

Re: icon replacement

im still debating whether icon skinning is really worth $2 xD its like are the emulators really worth $4 sure it'd be awesome to have full versions but i could easily spend $100+ on just apps and games alone.

Re: icon replacement

I don't think I'd want to change the standard Handcent SMS icon, as it's actually a widget. What I really want to do is change the names under a lot of my icons so half the name doesn't fade off into nothing.

reddit is fun is the worst... name doesn't fit and the icon is very low res.

Really I'd like a free app for something that lets you make your own link (icon and name) and point it to any app.

Thats exactly what this does lol, this is perfect for you. The Widget icons dont change and you can change the text of the app too (notice I changed Dolphin Browser to FireFox. If you pull up your app list the icons are still the original ones, the modified ones only show up on your homescreen. BTW the Handcent shortcut takes you to exactlky thr same place as the "widget" :)
