I tested this on my Win7 64bit machine and worked fine

plugged in droid x and set to pc mode
installed the motorola drivers
made sure USB debugging is enabled
Clicked Root
and had to toggle bluetooth and press continue at same time...

Glad to see you didn't have to wait long to get your X! I just did this myself and am now successfully rooted.

That & giving superuser access to MyBackUp Pro where the only things I really needed it for right at this moment.

Good news that it is so easy to root the X.

I am sure Big Red will fix this like Sprint did on update last month. Too easy to root.

Wow this looks awesome, and super easy. Will it work on both the Droid X and the Droid 2 when it comes out in a couple weeks?

I've always had a WinMo phone, and been with the Touch Pro 2 for about a year now, and always custom install ROMs like Mighty ROM etc, so I've never 'rooted' before. From what I understand, Rooting allows things that Verizon tried to disable, like wireless tethering to internet devices - but I thought the Droid X came with built in native 3G hotspot sharing?

Are there any other admin privileges rooting allows us to take advantage of, or a link where I can read up about it, since I'm 99.9% intent on upgrading to an Android phone in the next couple weeks? THANKS! :)

Re: 1-Click Droid X Root/UnRoot

3g hotspot did come on the phone, but it also comes with a $20 fee on top of your $30 data plan,

Rooting allows fee-less wifi tethering, screen shot apps, and a whole host of root only programs that are availble for use only by rooted devices.

Thank you so much... so basically the same hold true with my TP2 from Verizon :( Good thing I flashed to a ROM that enabled free tethering ;)

Do you have a link or two, where I can conduct research on Android 2.2, and all the awesomeness that comes along with it (since I'll be going Android very soon!), including the special list of programs that I install once I root the X (or Droid 2)? THANKS SO MUCH

So VZW says that they won't ship till the 18th, now do you think that by the time that phones ships, they will have patched the one-click root? I ask because I bought one for full price from ebay, then found out after the fact I could get one from VZW at the 2 year price. I ordered it and am debating which one to put on ebay, but if I can't root the legit one, I will keep the ebay one instead.

I'm getting the Droid 2, which comes out on the 12th, just waiting for the Pre Order. But I wanted to chime in, and say I'm sure if they do 'patch' it, another root program will come out literally moments after that! :)

It may say they will ship on the 18th, but don't believe it. I ordered mine Friday and it said will ship by the 18th. Yesterday I got the e-mail saying my order was completed with a FedEx shipping code and when I track it my DroidX will be here Wednesday!!!!

Thank you very much for the root.

Being a newbie to this, however, I can't seem to figure out how to get the tether to work. I have "Superuser Permissions" as an application, however, I didn't find tethering in the WiFi setting. Am I missing something or is there some place I can get additional information?

You have to download & install the wireless tether from the marketplace.

It will not work if the phone is not rooted first.

So rooting should come before ANYTHING else, once we purchase the phone? Based on the usual time line for all previous releases over the past year or so, how long is it until a Root is available with the Droid 2 is launched on August 12th?

I'm most interested in the wifi tethering in "Infrastructure Mode" meaning that devices that can't connect to "Ad-Hoc" hotspots will be able to get online, such as the PS3 - which will FINALLY allow me to play on-line and watch Netflix streaming (without having to buy a $160 cradle point mobile router, or go through 100 steps to share my laptop's wifi)! :)

PS: Where should new D2 owners keep their eyes peeled for the first 'official' Root for the phone?

Ad-Hoc only for Tethering.

OMJ a moderator pointed me to an Android tethering app that supports Infrastructure Mode here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...84&postcount=8

He was playing Call of Duty simply by broadcasting his EVOs WiFi!

Plus this app in the store says it can share with PS3, but maybe this one is through a PC? http://store.ppcgeeks.com/product.as...4&n=EasyTether

yeah, Easy tether supports sharing with PS3 through a PC, and wifi tether doesn't support infrastructure on the X yet.

Are you thinking the X and Droid 2 will eventually be supported by WiFi Tether for Infrastructure Mode? I tried to find a way to contact the developers of the App, but didn't see any links to a place to leave comments.

Re: 1-Click Droid X Root/UnRoot

I have no idea. I hope so. The only internet I have is my phone so I have to do it the hard way (lan cable from my tethered PC to the PS3). Infrastructure mode would be so much easier.

SO much easier! If this is already happening on other Android devices... it shouldn't take too much for it to happen on the Droid 2, should it?

Will we be able to upgrade to 2.2 (Froyo) after rooting the DX?

And, is there a reverse process to be able to un-root the DX? and why would I need to?

No, rooting allows you to take superuser permissions over device...

yes you can also unroot with same GUI
i think when the OTA froyo comes out the device will have to root before upgrading

Since the Droid X Froyo / 2.2 update was leaked, is someone working on the Rooting process so that when the rest of us get 2.2 on our DXs we can immediately Root it?

And, I just got notification from VZW that me DX was shipped -- and it was shipped 7 days earlier than what I was expecting. Will have DX in hand tomorrow night!

Enjoy your X! If I could only figure out how to make my battery last longer and get text and Email notifications on my home screen, my Droid 2 would be everything I hoped it would be :(

Go to Market and look for SMS Unread count.

Has widgets for unread SMS/GMAIL/MISSED Call.

No widgets anywhere for unread Exchange E-mail or G-Voice. Been looking for a while.

That is so odd that something as simplistic and vital to smart phones, Email, is not able to be updated on a home screen!?

Thanks for the SMS help though, those are more important anyway since they are sent by friends in 'real time' and are crucial to be responded to fast.

On the SMS check out Handcent SMS in the marketplace. This was one of the first apps I added and it is amazing for SMS. You can have a new text show up right on your screen as it comes in and even wake your phone to see it. You can set reminders so if you have not seen a text it will alert you again. One of the best apps I have added on my phone.

Cool I'll have to do this, sounds more user friendly than the other one :)

Rooting programs are unique to the device they were designed for. Not unlike the HSPL Unlockers for the TP2, there is a version (if developed) for every specific type of Android device. You should not use this on a hero.

Thank you BIG! For everything you did with the TP2 and the root-er link. You are the best ... and the reason I've given Droid a try. Sow Far very very pleased ;)
Glad Moto was able to get around the Exchange/Linux barrier. DX has the Best screen ever! Done the 2.2 cant wait to see what else you have in store for us.
But I still have my TP2, are you done with the tp2?
