Re: New ROM VZW 3.04 Shipped

I left mine with the original one. I remember when I flashed my Touch Pro2 with another carrier's radio, after that my phone would get hot, wouldn't turn off the backlight, battery life sucked and I HAD TO RESET phone every day.

No, I hate having to reset phone. I don't agree the new update/upgrade is worth the try if you have to reset phone once a day. Not acceptable for me.

I wonder why we all leave our phones "on" at night while we sleep in the first place? Why don't we just power down and give them the night off? Don't ask me; I leave mine on all the time too...
If it's your only phone, as mine is then you'd want to be available for any emergency family or otherwise. Unless of course one lives with their parents!

you don't have to reset... that is just one users preference.
i easily get 2 plus days battery with light use so no problems there.
phone is much faster and smoother with the update.

You are not flashing something from another carrier , this is an approved Verizon update. I reset my phone so I start off with max memory available
each morning. Has nothing to do with the battery or the phone getting hot , don't have those problems. And jeeeeeze , it only takes 30 seconds.

After updating to the 3.04 ROM, and waiting a few days for the battery meter to re-calibrate I started noticing that my phone would occasionally get warm and the battery was draining much faster than before the upgrade. I tried adjusting a few things like switching away from push email for my exchange server, but the problem persisted.

This evening, I installed some tools and found that the process mflo_starter.exe had consumed a large amount of CPU time over the past 24 hours and was spinning at about 30% CPU usage. I'm not sure why this didn't impact me before, but I think this is related to the battery problems that surfaced for me with the new ROM. In case this helps others, the following thread helped me get rid of this process (which is related to Verizon's mobile TV application that I never use) as well as the mobile TV icons.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=90838&page=4

I installed the PHM registry editor and deleted both the "Depends95" and "Launch95" values under HKLM\Init, as well as added an exclaimation point as a prefix for the "Dll" value under the HKLM\Services\MFLORSSI as described on the linked thread. After rebooting the phone, the offending process isn't running and the icon is gone. Hopefully this will resolve my issue -- and potentially help others. Thanks again to those that posted this new ROM which fixed the 3G issues.
That was it! My battery issues relapsed, and the rapid draining was so random there was nothing that made sense. I just went through and disabled everything as detailed in the thread, and my battery life is perfect again. It behaves like it should, barely dropping unless I am actually using the phone for something.

.38 is the bootloader or spl version. known spl versions are .38, .39 and .40.
.40 is a special unlocked spl found on chinese imagios. .38 is on the first vzw rom and .39 is on the update. shouldn't matter for hspl as it will overwrite whichever one you have loaded.

hspl is a modified spl which allows for flashing custom roms. hopefully testing is going well on this as we speak.

Re: New ROM VZW 3.04 Shipped

Feel free to flash the new vzw update. As lafester said it will overwrite the .39 with the hardspl. I find the new radio 2.25 better receptionwise and the newer sys fixes some IE issues and lessens the ram leak in gwes.exe. And as far as hardpl goes cmonex had some things to do in her real life and promised to have it ready for beta test tommorow afternoon. Actually, the .40spl is from a test Verizon rom we have been unable to source here in the US (not even from the inside) but somehow the Chinese merchants got it but will not share. BTW we have a .36spl too from the very 1st test VZW rom.

Re: New ROM VZW 3.04 Shipped

didn't know .40 was from a vzw rom.
too bad we couldn't get a hold of that rom for ourselves!

hopefully everything works out and you get to test today... starting to get anxious
