NOOB XV6900 Unlock

I have no experience with PPA's an received my first on the other day from a friend. It was his old phone, and he had no use for it anymore.

The problem is that he gave me a XV6900 from verizon, but my cell plan is through Alltel. I believe I need to "unlock" the phone before I can use it with alltell but I do not want to brick it.

I read the guide from this post. From what I understand...

1 I need to connect with activesync
2 I need the Vogue_unlocker_MFG_2.31.exe
3 I run the Vogue unlocker 2.31.exe
4 I may need to "hard reset" (I don't know what that is) the phone.

After that my phone should work with alltel? Do I bring it to my provider and have them switch it to my current number?

you wouldn't even need to unlock it if all you wanted was your carrier's rom. all you have to do is go to the store and they'll flash it for you. this way, if something goes wrong... then you can blame it on them. instead of the other way around...

or if you opt to do this... you flash it, to different roms, then you'll need to call alltel and authorize your phone

If you want to run a custom rom then you will need to unlock and flash. If you just want to get it working then like the previous poster said you can take it to a store and have them do it. Then you can always go the custom route later. :)

Sounds, good, but what if they refuse to flash it?

If I did decide to make custom rom, do I just upgrade to <CDMA radio is 3.42.5> for gps, and the use a RUU to flash the XV6900?

What I would like to do is just get it working with alltel and then upload Android onto it. Would I still need to update the radio to get google maps working?

answers to your question:
1st you won't need to flash it Verizon/Alltel are the same now just tell them it's an alltel MP6900.
2nd Yes if you do not currently have a GPS radio you will need to upgrade to one for gps and google maps.
3rd call alltel to activate. Then do alot of research on android and follow all the directions.

Re: NOOB XV6900 Unlock

OK, I contacted Alltel to activate, but the phone will not because it wil not connect to an alltel tower. So:

I run MFG_2.31.exe to unlock the phone
I then run Sprint 6.1.exe to updae the radio for GPS capability (soft reset at customizations)
I then run OMJ.3.09.01.Clean.exe to falsh a new rom that will work with alltel
Then all my problems should be fixed..............? or am I missing something? Should I flash an Alltel dumped version from Imcokeman?

Also Is there a way to save the contacts to a comuter or SD card?

Ok if your not connecting to alltel you may need to add a alltel PRL. Here is a link for PRL's.

Once you have a few of them downloaded tranfer them to your phone, I put them in my documents folder. Then go into EPST click edit enter 000000 for your MSL code bottom left view info choose PRL highlight update PRL, bottom right menu, edit click browse and choose the PRL. Then menu OK click yes or Ok twice let the phone reset then *228. Repeat these steps until you get a PRL that will work.

There are many ways to save your contacts like active sync if you have outlook 2007 and there are many 3rd party apps available to do the same.

i would just use activesync. its so much easier. all you have to do is plug it in, press sync. and just let it charge.

What is the EPST, and how do I get into it?
