*Updated Info* HTC Vogue - ANDROID EDITION!?!?!?!?!

Hey thought you guys might just love to see this!!!! http://gizmodo.com/5321122/htc-click...possible-price

Sure looks like a re-cooked Vogue with Android native base. And if its going to be free (new line/upgrade) then=D>. I haven't found a phone that made me want to replace my vogue but this may be the one.:headbang: That's not even to mention what a "free" smartphone from HTC with Android will do to this site among others lol. If WinMo doesn't get their act together, and soon, this may destroy a good part of their customer base.

*UPDATED INFO* The phone is a HTC Click. A little more info here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/23/a...heap-unlocked/

Re: HTC Android - VOGUE EDITION!?!?!?!?!

Sometimes WinMo upsets me getting used to new ROMs and all but overall im too big of a WinMo fan. If i wanted to use that Android Base i would just follow the thread here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=23244 and edit my phone so i have the choice of which to use. But thats my opinion, im stubborn. But the look of that HTC looks like a close upgrade to the Vogue. Great Scouting to find this.

I don't undertand how it is going to be free.

I meant free as a 2-year upgrade or a new line phone. My contract with Sprint has been up for 6 months and the cheapest HTC phone I can get is STILL $200 and I haven't found a phone that is worth that much to replace my Vogue. Heck I would even pay $50-$100 for a replacement Vogue but I'm not paying $200-$400 for a phone I "might" like.

I agree with you. This UI also helps with my flashing addiction. But I was looking for some help on enabling the GPS on it. Any clue if this can be done? Some posts say its working and some say it doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Be sure you update your Radio to get the GPS. The Android files on the Google Code page can only use GPS if your the radio on your device is up to date.

Amen. I'm super stoked lol. Also saw leaked reports that the first Android phone (I think it was a Hero) will be out around Oct. 11 from Sprint. I'll wait to see if the "Vogue Edition" shows up, but thank GAWD Sprint has finally got on the android band wagon.

yeah im eligible for an upgrade in november, so i may wait for the hero. right now im loving my vogue running the newest hero cupcake build. so much better than winmo. sprint made the right move here as winmo is slowly dying and the pre did nothing for their business. this may just put them back up top!

I've been fighting switching to android just because Im still new at all this and have to learn on my own. Too close too bricking so many times that I'm gun-shy about going through it again lol. If someone has a plain and simple cab without all the "grab this file, grab that file" then I might make the jump. Any recommendations?

cabs for android you mean? there are no cabs for android to install anything. it's pretty simple to install new apps on android, you just download and it auto installs for you off of the marketplace. i don't want a g1, ill wait for the hero or the touch vogue android version. as far as installing the rom on your device, it's pretty straight forward, you just place the files on you sd card formatted to fat32 and you boot up linux. if there is updates you just put the new files on your card and overwrite the old ones.

Interesting....
I guess it's ok as long as you don't put one of those ugly zebra cases on it. lol

ummm that cab is very outdated man, you might not have a good experience with it. just download the files and put them on your sd card and go from there, it's very easy.

go here and follow the directions: http://code.google.com/p/vogue-andro...i/HowToInstall

Yeah I guess it was old lol, but it a great way to get use to the UI etc. I'll be trying the newer stuff shortly.
